  1. Hi everyone, Although I started Richter Acoustics in 1985, I still get people asking about my speakers, so I thought that I would join up and respond to any queries in that regard. I am well out of the industry now with my ow food manufacturing company and also involved with industrial design. I have attached a photo of my daughter Alexia delivering a knockout blow to Brad Serhan of Orpheus loudspeakers...
  2. Further Information: This is a pair of lovely Harbeth Super HL5 speakers, with the matching Skylan stands. They were manufactured in the UK in 2011, and are the 30th Anniversary version in premium rosewood finish. They are in absolutely first-rate condition, having been used in a non-smoking, pet/child-free house - the stands have a few tiny scratches at the base. The drivers and veneer are all pristine. They have been boxed up in storage for the past 5 years. I am the second owner - they were imported directly into Australia by a gentleman in Sydney (there being no rep in Australia at the time). He decided very quickly they were not to his taste, and I bought them (via Stereonet) in as-new condition. These are large BBC-style stand-mounted speakers, using an 8 inch poypropylene cone in a ported box, in the classic "2 foot x 1 foot x 1 foot" format. I love them for their fidelity to timbre, particularly in vocals and acoustic instruments, and their ability to convey the music beautifully at moderate volumes. Plenty of info, reviews, etc on the internet. The Skylan stands were the recommended stands for them back then, manufactured in Canada. I have the original boxes and paperwork for the speakers, but no packaging for the stands. Please note: These are not the later versions of the SHL5, which have the suffix "+" or "XD" - which go for considerably more money.
  3. Price can be NEGOTIATED in a reasonable degree. These are very rare and amazing loudspeakers. These two come with the genuine Gold Note front magnetic grills. Finally decided to do a very big upgrade to these excellent speakers. They are very musical for any sort of music from Classical, Jazz, Fusion, Heavy and Thrash Metal. They are not hash and allow to listen for prolonged time even playing Thrash Metal. Very very musical. I have all original boxes, packaging, etc. You can PM me for details or additional photos. Price can be NEGOTIATED in a reasonable degree. https://www.goldnote.it/loudspeakers/xt-7/ https://6moons.com/audioreviews2/goldnote2/1.html
  4. Further information: I auditioned many loudspeakers in $15K-$30K range and landed with $15K Tannoy Kensington Prestige which was a clear winner. I was pleased to find that my choice was validated by Patrick Turner, acclaimed Australian tube audio amplifier designer / technician, who said that Tannoy Kensington was "the best sounding loudspeakers I ever had in my workshop". Later, I auditioned Osborn Reference Epitomes Tower Elite. They left me speeches. My beloved Tannoys Kensington Prestige, in direct comparison with Osborn Reference Epitomes Towers Elite, suddenly became very disappointing, sounding flat and dull. I had these Epitomes for 3 years, they still under 5 years warranty. Just upgraded to Osborn Reference Grand Monument Loudspeakers are in a brand new condition, cosmetically and sonically 10 out of 10. From smoke, pet and small kids free home. I listened at low volume, very rarely at moderate volume. Beautiful unique finish, special order Antique Brown color in Piano Gloss. Pick-up only in Melbourne (Frankston). Reference Epitome Tower Elite Specifications: SPEAKER DIMENSIONS: 36 x 49 x 156 cm WEIGHT: 105kg each EFFICIENCY: 91db for 1 watt at 1 meter FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 20 to 25000 Hz Tweeter accuracy throughout operating range +0/-1db. Usable bass to 8 Hz. CROSSOVER POINTS: 125 Hz and 3500 Hz @ 12 db/Octave MINIMUM IMPEDANCE: 4 Ohm REC. MAXIMUM POWER: 200 Watts R.M.S per Channel REC. MINIMUM POWER: 10 Watts R.M.S per Channel “Very few loudspeakers at any price can match the transparency, detail, dynamics, weight and sheer power of this combination". This fidelity is possible due to the fine tolerances and light weight of the driver weight and voice coils. Features heavy lead lining to all exterior surfaces. Heavy bracing is used and all areas between the bracing are covered by a unique sandwich lining. Heavy acoustic felt is used to separate the heavy lead sheet from the cabinetry. A further layer of heavy acoustic felt is placed over the lead and the entire sandwich is stapled to the walls of the cabinet. This result is what is effectively a box within a box. Wrapping the outside of the speaker is similar to knocking on a brick. This totally inert cabinet construction results in the ultimate sound reproduction.

  7. After an upgrade and a return to two channel, I am selling my Dynaudio speaker system. It comprises of 1 of pair Contour 1.8 mk ii, floorstanders 1 pair of Contour 1.4 mk ii bookshelves, and 1 Contour centre channel, all in Rosewood. They are in very good condition, and very well looked after. They have been driven properly by a lexicon power amp their whole life, and lived in a terrace, so have neither been distorted or played too loud. Other than a very small scratch on the top of one of the 1.4's, only really noticeable from up close and above, they have no damage. There is very slight sun bleaching on the face of the 1.8's, but only noticeable when you remove the grills. They have been well maintained and oiled regularly. Full pictures with this listing. The 1.4 mk ii are sold with the epos stands pictured. I won't sell them without. Look at it as free stands. These speakers originally sold for $5600 (1.8 mk ii), $4000 (1.4 mk ii) and $2500 (centre) the Epos stands were purchased in late 2013 for $395. Perfect condition. I am looking for $1800 for the 1.8 mk ii, $1400 for the 1.4 mk ii with stands and $700 for the centre. If you take the centre with either pair of speakers I will sell it for $400. If you take both pairs you can have it for free. They are using up room I don't have and I need them gone before they go in the loft for a decade. I love these speakers. Lean clean and effortless. Accurate to a tee. Will be missed. I have photos, that won't load here. View them on the identical ad on stereonet or I can email them to you. I live in sydney and they don't have boxes so interstate at own risk. Get them while there hot.

  14. Item: A pair of Neat Critique speakers, Exc. Cond. boxed Location: Sydney Price: $450 Item Condition: Lovely Reason for selling: Building speakers now and have too many around the house Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: A beautiful, mellow sounding UK speaker with a very comfortable mix of detail and good bass for size. Neat speakers are certainly not cheap to buy new. The cabinets are superb, much better than I can make, and I'll regret losing that beauty to look at as well as listen to, but it has become necessary to thin the herd. Freight can be organised at buyer's expense and risk, via Aust Post if possible - haven't checked size/weight yet for that purpose, or courier at rates similar to postage. Contact me about those aspects. Pictures:
  15. Item: Mission 753 rosewood floorstanding loudspeakers Location: Melbourne Price: $1000 Item Condition: Used good condition Reason for selling: Surplus to requirement Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These vintage speakers sound fine and look beautiful. One-owner since 1994. Played 1-2 hours per week. Covered when not in use. Very good condition for age. Flaking paint (see photos) from metal plinth are due to ageing, not from being knocked around. Original packaging and manuals. Their design and performance were well received critically in the mid-1990s. The design is 5 drivers, 2.5 way (the upper 2 cones do midrange-upper bass, the lower 2 cones do low bass), bass-reflex ported. A few years ago, I auditioned speakers around the $10,000 range and decided to keep these because I felt there was no significant step-up in sound quality. The original aluminium-coated tweeter was good, but could sound mildly harsh when played loud. Instead, the professionals at Speakerbits were commissioned to upgrade the tweeters. The Scanspeak textile domes have added refinement and air to the treble - they literally sound better than new. Well suited for acoustic, electronic, or vocal music. They could be used in a home theatre set-up without subwoofers, however I think they are first and foremost audiophile speakers for a dedicated stereo system. Although I have not used them with valve amplification, there should be no difficulty with the 6ohm impedance and 90db sensitivity. They were designed to be positioned close-to-wall, facing-straight-out. To get the best out of these, I would not recommend them for listening rooms smaller than 3.5 x 4m. Recommended placement is 1.8-2m apart, at least 20cm from rear wall and at least 50cm from side walls. You will need cables with banana-plug, angled or smaller spade terminations to fit in the recessed binding-posts. Link-rods for binding posts and floor spikes included. With good ancillary equipment and proper set-up, these speakers will stand up to comparison with much more expensive new models. It would be hard to obtain this sound quality for the asking price. I am selling these because they are not used enough. My wife wants me to sell them to make room, though I think it should be the other way around. Can demo for potential buyer. Cash on pick-up. Items maybe listed elsewhere. http://www.hifi-review.com/153625-mission-753.html https://www.speakerbits.com/ Pictures:
  16. Item: Neat Critique Speakers Location:Sydney Price: $430 ono Item Condition: Very good indeed, with original box Reason for selling: now have too many speakers, and building more! Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, Direct deposit Extra Info: A beautiful, mellow sounding UK speaker with a very comfortable mix of detail and good bass for size. Neat speakers are certainly not cheap to buy new, so these are excellent value at this price. Update: found some specs - 8ohms, recommended power 25-150w, efficiency 86dB. I wouldn't have thought the efficiency was that low, they seem easy enough! The cabinets are superb, much better than I can make, and I'll regret losing that beauty to look at as well as listen to, but it has become necessary to thin the herd. (some connection loops included for the biwirable sockets to enable single connection) Freight can be organised at buyer's expense and risk, via Aust Post if possible, otherwise courier. 17. Item: REDEFY AUDIO 2 PERTH - BROWN/ BLACK -TIGER STRIPED. Location: PERTH Price: $7000 - 6 MONTHS OLD - new 8500 less than 20 hours. Item Condition: ONE MINT - OTHER 2 SMALL ISSUES Reason for selling: CHANCE TO CHANGE ROOM AND SYSTEM Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal PLUS FEES ETC, COD Only PREFER LOCAL BUYER - I SHIPPED FROM OVER EAST AND CAN SHIP BACK IF PACK AND SEND OR SOMEONE PACKS AND SHIPS PROPERLY. Extra Info: Left speaker with bass unit on right hand side has a slight nick in the top front edge from moving into place, its like a tiny nick in a resin cover over wood- hard to see unless close up - I have touched up and probably could do better but you cannot really see it unless close up. and when the speakers arrived the tweeter was not working, I tried to undo the horn Allen keys but resin varnish was holding in place i spoke to Henry from Redefy Audio who created them and after touching up the scratch marks on the allen keys and removing the bass driver to find a simple loose solder joint to the tweeter so 2 secs and one solder later and they fired up beautifully... They are very very special speakers and sound amazing, and would be 3-4 times the price if a well known international brand, the bass just thumps you in the chest and the horn loaded tweeter supply sublime top ends, a lovely combination detailed by Edgar Kramer on 6 moons perfectly. Eith high end Italian drivers and a sublime build and finish they are amazing speakers and no need for a sub with a 15 inch driver each side, they are simply too big for my wife and my 3.5 metre wide room and only selling to get a forward facing set of bass drivers for my room set up otherwise i would keep forever they are that good. 94DB AT 8 OHM SO VERY EFFICIENT AND WORKED WELL WITH MY WESTON ACOUSTICS TUBE OR PS AUDIO BHK PRE POWER. Henry and Redefy Audio offers great support on these speakers and answered my queries when on holiday and is a very regular SNA member. Apologies they need a dust and polish. Frequency Response - 30hz - 20khz (20hz in room) Impedance - 8ohm Efficiency - 94db Power Handling - 1000W Dimensions - W 280mm x H 1100mm x D 468mm Drivers - 1" Horn Loaded Tweeter 8" Midrange 15" Bass Weight - 65kg each Edgar Kramer does a great review in 6 moons http://6moons.com/audioreviews2/redefy/1.html Conclusion. The Redefy Audio Two are true 3-way designs featuring high-efficiency drivers, an extremely well-built and finished enclosure and thorough overall engineering for what is, these days, a very reasonable $8500 asking price. Henry Kristanto had a self-imposed mandate: launch a brand of speakers offering superb overall performance at affordable prices. In this intro, I asked "does the world really need another speaker manufacturer?" Henry Kristanto's Redefy Audio's Two has answered with a blaring bugle blow. And it's a blast asserting a resounding ‘Yes!' Based on the excellence of the Two, I'd wholeheartedly agree and call this a superb addition to the local and hopefully soon global high-end speaker landscape. 19. Item: Neat Critique two-way speakers, beautiful in sound and looks Location: Sydney Price: $475 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Too many speakers in the house Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Hard to part with these but I am still building speakers and there's only so much room in the house. They are a boutique UK brand which commands high prices so these are a bargain. The timber finish is superb, I'll never be able to match it in my builds. Sound is full and smooth with enough detail without being harsh or edgy. If you need freight then best organise it from your end - I cannot go guarantor for what couriers might do, but these do come with their original box and internal packing, so that's a plus. Companies like Interparcel give you rates comparable with Australia Post, and once booked you can send me the pdf labels to attach. Each speaker is approx. 320x220x240 (hwd). I'll get the total packed dimensions sorted and add later. Pictures:

  23. Item: Three-way Bipolar, large floor standers Location: Sydney Price: $600 (or near offer - see notes) Item Condition: good, used, DIY project Reason for selling: that's what I do after each build. Too many speakers already. Payment Method: Cash, Bank Deposit, Paypal Extra Info: These are my latest build, my hobby, not for profit. I’ve tried out a new look, and a bipolar arrangement with one midrange facing forward (Marantz) and an oval one facing backwards (Magnavox). Sitting above these is a little silk dome tweeter in a custom-made housing. I’ve written for Sound & Image magazine on speakers that radiate forward and aft, and I have a number of speakers that do just that, or even a full 360 degrees. The bipolar or omni effect adds to soundstage depth and overall spaciousness. The 12” woofer is housed in its own rear-vented 100 litre enclosure, and the bass response is down to 40Hz, not sure where it peters out exactly but there’s nothing much happening at 30Hz. My test tone disc offers 30 and 40, but nothing in between! Anyway, to go below 40Hz in a new speaker these days you’re probably looking at the best part of three thousand. These work well with jazz, classical, popular and I’ve even tried a bit of dance/trance to good effect – Infected Mushroom’s BP Empire gives a good workout. You might get more bass with a Peerless or some other woofer, but it would most likely add $200+ to the price. Cosmetics are imperfect. Some might say rough! I do the best I can with the rough and ready home workshop setup, but I have to admit there are numerous flaws. My stuff will never look shop-bought, however they look impressive enough, and the sound is the main event. I try to achieve a level of detail that’s lifelike but not edgy or stressful. Combine this with a fairly full frequency range and you have an enjoyable experience. I only make one of each model, so every pair I make is a one-off. The top boxes will be attached with tiny silver brackets but I haven't fixed those at the time of writing as I was still playing with some resistors to balance the mid and top end reponse vis a vis the woofer. I'm working in a room which is on the live side, one with more drapes or bookshelves, soft furnishings etc will alter the end result a bit, changing the treble/bass balance. Bass loading varies quite a bit from room to room anyway. This room is bass light if anything. Dimensions etc: the bass boxes stand 860x480x340mm approx., while the top housing adds a further 140mm plus 60mm for the tweeter, for an overall height of 1060mm. Impedance at rest is 7.5 ohms. I’m guessing about efficiency, probably in the 88-90dB area. They are biwirable, but this will make little difference unless you bi-amp. (The design is in part inspired by the Technics SB-7000) Price: make an offer. My asking price includes delivery by me in the Sydney area. Since I can’t offer a demo here at my place, we can do that at your place, but a charge will apply if not purchased. Delivery: Depends where you are. I’m fairly flexible about home delivery in the Sydney area. Difficult to pack and send, but ask me about that anyway. There may be a way, if the right packing materials can be found. Pictures:
