Further Information: Features SME 3009 tonearm and Ortofon 2M Red cart with new spare stylus. Bought this a few years ago from an acquaintance but have only used it once or twice as the vibration from my wooden floors are not great with it. Previous owner had it serviced and set up and I have since re-checked cart alignment and spring stability and it's still good. I can audition but is not an ideal listening environment given the floor movement issue noted above.

As the main Star Wars saga concludes, I came across this blast from the past (see photo which for some reason has rotated 90deg). This was very much in keeping with the cheeky Linn & Naim marketing at the time but timeless in its message nonetheless. The main difference for mine is that the Source these days starts at the mastering/file quality, pre the turntable / CD player.

I am seeking some advice/opinions from the more experienced members about the Ortofon M20E Super cartridge with Linn Ittok LV II tonearm. I have to admit that I am not clued in at all when it comes to cartridge and tonearm combinations, particularly the Linn Sondek LP12 parts and upgrades. My turntable came with this cart/tonearm configuration when I bought it, so I've always wondered if changing to a different cart would yield a sound improvement (no pun intended), not that it sounds bad, I actually don't mind how it sounds at the moment. I have a number of carts that I wanted to try but just not sure whether they'd be suitable for the Ittok LV II tonearm, for instance in terms of compliance, etc... Maybe the Ortofon M20E Super is already better than everything else I've got, for example - Denon DL-110 & DL-103 LCII, Ortofon 2M Red, AT95E - Who knows? Over to you...

I am told that I am the third owner of this beauty with the original owner having it for many decades. The second owner got a newer Linn rather than upgrade. The fluted plinth is in pretty good condition with a few small nicks as seen in the photos. Lid is crack free with only minor swirling. Hinges replaced by myself so are almost new. No idea about the hours on the cartridge but it plays without a hitch and stylus looks very straight. I've put on less than 50 hours personally having only got it right before our child was born. It has been well looked after by all owners and I even have the original documents. Bonus shim for the tonearm in case you need to raise the height to accommodate a different cartridge. Further information: This is an unexpected sale due to upgrade. I love this turntable and it plays extremely well. I actually thought I would never sell it but it will otherwise go to waste with a new tt on the way. I begin this journey in December 2018 by purchasing an LP12 in excellent condition. This is an early model but the plinth is immaculate. This is what attracted me to it. It came with an as new lid which is still in great condition with on the slightest of dust marks if you look really closely. As the purchase was primarily for the actual plinth, I looked at mod options and upgrading the tone arm. I then found the details of Edmund in Hong Kong and his Mober brand. Edmund was and still is a real gentleman to deal with. I decided to go with Mober DC Motor LPSU, upgraded Bearing, Upgraded Arm Board (Linn) and the upgraded Sub platter with bearing. At the same time, I changed the springs and grommets. My journey was documented it this forum: As you can see, I also upgraded the tonearm to the latest Linn Akito 3b. This was purchased from Tivoli at a cost of $2900. This arm remains in excellent condition. All up, my costs were approx $7500 but it was worth every cent. I soon also became pedantic about set up and I purchased a setup table that does do the job and is a hell of a lot easier than my original three chairs method! This cost me $300 plus post from on here. I will post plenty of pics, including the extras for the Linn I will no longer need. To be clear, the following is included: Linn LP12 - original plinth, top plate and baseboard/feet - One of the feet sits flat with the help of some blutak inside as the screw thread was worn (is an easy fix)- works fine as it is flat and hold but full disclosure! - Mober motor, bearing, sub platter and arm board - the lid is aftermarket but excellent fit (it comes off and goes in easy) and great condition - Linn Akito 3b - current model - original Linn felt mat in excellent condition Extras - belt, springs and rubbers as per pics - 2 bottles of Linn bearing oil purchased from Douglas HIFI - Cork mat - I used this the most as the Linn mat sometimes sticks to records and I think sounds better - set up table NOT INCLUDED are the rubber isolation feet and isoacoustic ones in pics (I will use these on something else), kettle cord and my Lyra Delos Cart (being fitted to my new tt). As there is no cart, nor can I demo anyway, I had my first go at a youtube video taken today. As can be seen, the Linn gets to speed quickly and holds it! I hope this link works! Hi all, I have an early LP12, which I have had for more than 20 years, though it was at least that old when I purchased it. Like many of its ilk, it has gone through changes over the years, initially, getting a late pre-cirkus bearing and subplatter along with new springs and grommets. It grumbled along for some time with a basik plus, having not had the coin to buy an ittok at the time. It has had a number of cartridge partners, spending most of its time with a couple of generations of AT-OC9's, though it has latterly found a VdH frog to pair with. The Basik plus left the building, replaced with a Jelco 750D, which was a clear improvement. Most recently, replaced the subchassis and bearing with a Kore and Cirkus, which has been a clear improvement, clearly tightening up the bass, and making balancing the springs easier. The motor and power supply is a valhalla, and despite having considered change this, I have not as yet. This is on the cards at some time in the medium term. As a result of all this action, I have a trove of LP12 bits'n'pieces, and a turntable on a classic plinth, which I am considering replacing. The plinth itself is very early- it is afromasia with fluting on all four sides, and no corner bracing. The corners are all tight, and plinth is not warped, though it is a couple of mm out of square, which you notice when the armband is in place. On the other side of the plinth, the top plate sits evenly and tightly. I am considering doing one of a number of things, and would appreciate the advice of the forum. Ideally I would like to get a new plinth. I have seen booplinths and Harban plinths, and whilst they look (and possibly sound) amazing, I am not sure that I want to sink my cash into one at the cost of upgrading the motor in the medium term. Is anyone else aware of other reasonable options out there? I have seen a number on ebay, though new linn options from the UK seem limited by geographic sales limitations, second hand options come up from time to time, though provenance and quality is a concern, and there is a maker in Barcelona, called woodoo plinths, which looks reasonable, though reviews are lacking. The other option I am considering is bracing my own plinth, though this is not my first choice, as I would prefer to have the parts to put together a second LP12 to sell, going towards a power supply upgrade.
