  1. CartridgeLab, a Comprehensive Phono Presentation 8pm Wednesday 19th September, visitors welcome. Willis Room, City of Whitehorse Offices Maroondah Highway (Whitehorse Road), Nunawading Melway Map 48 Ref G9 Contact: 9437 1249 This month we are in for a very special and entertaining presentation. Leigh Fischer from Interdyn, who import the full range of Pro-Ject turntables and more recently Ortofon will be conducting a phono cartridge demonstration. "CartridgeLab is an interactive demonstration tool, designed in Australia, which allows us to explore key models in the Ortofon cartridge range." A Pro-Ject 2Xperience SB Turntable is modified by fitting an Ortofon TA-110 Tonearm accompanied with a suite of eight cartridges. The headshell mounted 2M series moving magnet and Quintet series moving coil cartridges are weighted to be swappable, allowing Leigh to quickly move through the models. We will be listening to the cartridges through a system comprising of a Pro-Ject phono stage, a Tube Box DS2 with its switchable front phono settings which allows us to explore some of the characteristics of the phono cartridges. A Rotel Pre & Power Amp combo, the RC-1592 and RB-1590 will supply plenty of power to tease out those transients as we move up the Ortofon range. A pair of PMC Twenty 5.26 floor standing speakers will provide the sound energy to fill the Willis Room. A three way design, this flagship model from the Twenty5 series of speakers, comprises of a 6.5inch bass driver, a 2inch dome midrange and a 27mm tweeter. The Twenty5 represents the latest in a series of evolutionary stages in perfecting the company's ATL (advanced transmission line) interpretation. "This system showcases the increased dynamic response and openness of moving coil cartridges, along with the increased resolution of more extreme stylus profiles. During the demonstration we'll explore key points of differences in cartridge design and discuss the trade-offs, benefits and - perhaps most interesting - the inevitable compromises we can encounter within the analogue world." Sounds like we're in for a very informative evening. Nick Karayanis Program Co-ordinator Ken Tripp Wise and Wonderful Webmaster Melbourne Audio Club, Inc. http://www.melbourneaudioclub.org.au
  2. For our July club meeting we are very pleased to have the distributor Interdyn present (https://www.interdyn.com.au/brands/). Interdyn is the distributor for many great HiFi products including Artnovion, Isotek, Monitor Audio, Ortofon, PMC, Pro-Ject, Roksan, Roon, Rotel, SVS and others. On the day, Tom Jolly (Product Manager) and Gabrielle Fifield from Interdyn will present a reasonably priced system based on Monitor Audio, Roksan and Pro-Ject. Our thanks to Evgeny Vizelman (Director) and Leigh Fischer (Brand & Account Manager) for helping to organize this event. Details of the system… Monitor Audio Gold 200 floor standing speakers - $7769. “These are really exciting. They are the latest generation of MA's Gold series and they have seen a lot of trickle down technology from the MA flagship Platinum series, without the platinum price tag.”- Tom Jolly Refer to https://www.monitoraudio.com/en/product-ranges/gold-5g/gold-200/ Roksan Blak amplifier - $6999. The Roksan amp includes a PC-USB input. Refer to https://www.roksan.com/en/product-ranges/blak/blak-integrated-amplifier/ Roksan Blak CD player - $5999. Refer to https://www.roksan.com/en/product-ranges/blak/blak-cd-player/ “The Blak range is Roksan's top range of exquisite British made electronics. Understated but great looking units with a delightful sound.” – Tom Jolly Pro-Ject “The Classic” turntable with Ortofon Quintet Bronze Cartridge - $2600 combo. “This is a beautifully built midrange turntable from Pro-Ject with a stunning MC cartridge from Ortofon.” – Tom Jolly Refer to https://www.project-audio.com/en/product/the-classic/ Time permitting, Tom Jolly will also give a brief beginners presentation on the Roon music server. The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD, USB thumb/flash drives or vinyl. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others. Feel free to come and hear the capabilities of the system, or to just share the experience with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Guests are welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of great music and sound. Venue: Epping Creative Centre, Dence Park Address: 26 Stanley Road, Epping When: Sunday 14th July 2019 Doors open 1pm Meeting starts at 2pm Tom Waters President Sydney Audio Club W: http://www.sydneyaudioclub.org/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/sydneyaudioclub E: tomwaters@sydneyaudioclub.org.au
  3. Okay guys as pictured I have a pair of Seas 60 series Interdyn speakers from Encel stereo three way with twin 10's, these were my dads still working perfectly (he changed the tweeters) they have the same driver as the famous Dynaco A50, A25 10" seas model # H336 the other is believed to be Interdyn p33 using the same 10" in a three way, both shared the same tweeter originally. the question do I try and reinstate them as original and perhaps retain them as an investment or keep the 10's and build a more suitable enclosure utilising modern seas or other parts to keep them current. Bottom line are they worth anything and are they decent enough to use in a new project? Thanks for your thoughts and information you may have regarding these models and history. Dwayne. p.s cabinets are pretty shabby
  4. Devialet Expert Pro Integrated Amp, Phantom Gold and PMC Speakers 8pm Wednesday 16th August, visitors welcome. Willis Room, City of Whitehorse Offices Maroondah Highway (Whitehorse Road), Nunawading Melway Map 48 Ref G9 Contact: 9437 1249 In 2009, a French manufacturer Devialet, set the audio world on its ear with the introduction of the D-Premier DAC-Integrated Amplifier. This unique component, housed in a slim shiny case the size of a laptop, featured a host of customizations that had never before been incorporated into an audio component. A digital preamplifier section that could accept digital as well as line and phono-level analogue signals; a high-powered digital signal processor (DSP) that could perform real-time processing of the music signals for equalization and room correction; and an innovative amplifier topology Analogue Digital Hybrid (ADH), which set Devialet apart from other Hi-Fi manufacturers. The current line up of amplifiers called Expert Pro, start off with their entry level model Expert 130 Pro which delivers 130Wpc into 6 ohms and goes up to their most powerful model, the Expert 1000 Pro. Leigh Fischer from INTERDYN will be demonstrating the many features of the Devialet amplifier with a pair of PMC fact.12 speakers. With new technology called Speaker Active Matching (SAM) the amplifiers output signal can be optimized for your particular speaker. A testament to the pace of Devialets technical evolution is incorporated in the Phantom speaker. Their active loudspeaker backed with R&D and out-of-the-box thinking sets a path for the future. By design, the Phantom goes against and beyond the existing establishment. Egg like in shape and white only in colour, the technology contained within the Phantom speaker is very impressive. The Gold Phantom will also be demonstrated at the club. Its novel combination of 'Class A' and 'Class D' amplification, 4500W at 108db, and their 'Bass Implosion' technology measuring ruler flat from 20Hz, is the absolute demonstration of Devialets design and engineering. Devialet has firmly cemented its name in the audiophile world. Their integrated amplifiers and Phantom speakers, play host to the most exciting and innovative technologies available in sound reproduction. The future in Hi-Fidelity has arrived.
