  1. G'day, I'm looking to pickup a subwoofer for my studio (where I work, so listen to music in the day) that is also my home theatre by night. The room is a separate dwelling that's 3.77m x 3.77m (22 feet) with vaulted ceilings, I think it's about 4500 cubic feet (maybe a bit more?). The room is bright, wood polished floor boards, wood vaulted ceiling, 35% Windows on walls. Current setup I have Goldenear Triton 2's (inbuilt powered subs) and their Super Center XXL up front with some older bookshelf speakers for surrounds being powered by a Marantz SR6010. I have no separate sub at the moment. So I'm on the lookout for a sub that will do a great job for movies and games (music is already pretty sweet with the Tritons up front, they do provide a surprising amount of LFE during movies too but looking for more and lower response). I'm thinking at once I have the sub I'll run An LFE cable to the sub and split the second sub out on the amp to the LFE ports on the Tritons (will see how that sounds) So I'm thinking a beast of a ported sub would be best. Looking for a great deal and I can spend up to about $2k....happy to organise shipping from anywhere to Byron Bay... Have considered something like a pair of second hand SVS PB 2000s (or would 1 actually be enough for my room?) or 1 SVS Ultra PB13... Thoughts? Have a nice sub collecting dust?
  2. Item: Hsu Research VTF2 Mk1 Subwoofer Location: Gladesville (Sydney) Price: $230 (includes $10 donation to SNA) Item Condition: Used - good condition - woofer & surrounds in great condition. Reason for selling: Changing to a sealed sub with no ports for a baby to put stuff in Payment Method: Pickup - Cash or Paypal Extra Info & Pictures: Hsu Research - VTF-2 Mk1 - True Subwoofer Great condition, works perfectly, purchased in 2005 No longer available, but the local RRP was A$899 Located in Sydney metro, pick-up or local delivery only - will not ship due to size & weight. Doubles as a side-table or small coffee table! Specs: Driver: 10" long throw down-firing Amplifier: 150w RMS, Class A-B Ports: Dual 3" with removable tuning plug Maximum Extension: 25Hz Inputs: Low-level & high-level Settings: Gain, Crossover, Phase Size (LxWxH): 18.5" x 16" x 16" VTF-2 Mk1 Subwoofer If history is any guide, your system will sound remarkably better with the VTF-2. Usually, the reactions are the same. Those new to subwoofers exclaim that the VTF-2 has reawakened their music collection with new layers of sound. Owners of lesser subwoofers remark that their featureless boom is replaced with tight, enjoyable notes and textures. Experienced listeners are surprised by the VTF-2's impressive bang for the buck. You would think we would get used to the compliments, but we always appreciate them. Studio-quality bass has traditionally been out of reach for the masses. Try this star performer that changes that. Harnessing the unique Variable Tuning Frequency port technology (VTF), each port uses the air generated from the long throw woofer to dramatically boost the deeper frequencies. With both ports open, the VTF-2 doesn't seem small anymore. Both ports are large, with enormous flares to virtually eliminate port noise and distortion. This kind of port design is extremely tricky to engineer, and the VTF-2 succeeds down to a very deep 25 Hz with one port open (in maximum extension mode). The reason for variable tuning is that all subwoofer designs, especially consumer-level subwoofers, involve tradeoffs in design. You cannot have a small subwoofer that goes very low, plays very loud and costs very little. The VTF-2 changes all that. It allows you, the user, to choose the tradeoff. If you enjoy music that is loud but does not have much deep bass, set the VTF series for maximum output. That way, you get maximum dynamic range with the lowest distortion. If you like music with deep bass, set it for maximum bass extension to reproduce the deep bass accurately. You can even switch between the two modes depending on what you play. That means effectively you get a subwoofer that can play loudly, and can play low, all in one, at a reasonable price! Industry Reviews Lowest priced subwoofer to receive a Class AA rating. — Stereophile Guide to Home Theater "On a per-dollar basis, direct from the factory, the VTF-2 is the best subwoofer known to me." — Peter Aczel, Audio Critic Magazine "made my jaw drop....the overall performance of the VTF-2 (in the 25Hz tuning configuration) could be reasonably compared to the performance of the $3,000 B&W ASW 4000....a performance benchmark to which other under-$1,000 subwoofers must be compared." — Richard Hardesty, Widescreen Review Subwoofer Buyer's Guide "...may be the best-bang-for the buck "true" subwoofer you can buy." — Howard Ferstler, The Sensible Sound Best performer in a comparison test. — Tom Nousaine, Sound & Vision "[A] best buy in subwooferdom." — Robert Deutsch, Stereophile Guide to Home Theater "...if you're looking for more bounce from your audio bucks, the Hsu Research VTF-2 powered sub has no equal." — Steve Guttenberg, Audio "awe-inspiring...I enjoyed more soundstage depth, more thereness, more realism. This spoke louder about the VTF-2's bass quality and inherently low distortion than thunderous SPL output levels (of which, incidentally, it is also quite capable)...a sure-fire recommendation for anyone who has superior monitors or even tower speakers and wants to add quality and quantity bass." — GoodSound!
