  1. I am planning on using a PC as my only source for Movies and Music, and plan to do any decoding on the PC end. I have played with this by using the PC to decode the DTS or Dolby soundtrack or letting the AV Receiver do the job, which I couldn't tell the difference between the two in comparison. I was wondering what these DTS and Dolby codecs really are and if they are the only source for decoding. Does every AV chip has the same algorithm to decode these formats, or is this something you can develop yourself. The only (HD audio) software decoders for DTS and Dolby are from Arc Soft but I don't know how good they are or where they are coming from. With the processing power of the PC I am wondering if you could get more out of a soundtrack with a better decoding algorithm, or am I just chasing ghosts.
  2. Dolby Atmos and Auro 3D are two competing speaker set ups for immersive sound. The set ups are both different. You cant really set up for both although Auro 3D suggests that setting up for Auro 3D is less harmful to Dolby Atmos than the other way around. What are your thoughts? Set up for: 1. Dolby Atmos (my gut feeling) 2. Auro 3D 3. Wait before setting up https://rslspeakers.com/dolby-atmos-vs-auro-3d/ https://ce-pro.eu/2016/12/3d-audio-dolby-atmos-auro-3d-dtsx/
  3. I am considering upgrading to Dolby Atmos with some ceiling speakers. It is quite a costly affair with new speakers installed and a new amp, etc. There arent a lot of blu-ray titles that support Dolby Atmos or DTS:X right now and I'm wondering if it will be worth it? It will be justified if most/all movies in the near future will be released with a good Dolby Atmos soundtrack. It would not be worth it if is is like 3D movies where there are only a select few since it hasnt really caught on. In hind sight, I didnt need to get my 3D TV. What are your thoughts?
  4. I have a 5.1 Krix setup from 2007. It is made up of the Neuphonix, Epicentrix, Equinox and Seismix 5. Currently it is powered by the Onkyo 875 as Pre and Emotiva XP5 as Power Amp. I have a few questions if you dont mind.... 1. The whole set up is about 10 years old. What part of it has lost quality when compared to brand new - ie do I have to start again? 2. Could I get a new Pre-Amp and use the old Onkyo 875 (integrated amp) and Emotiva XP5 (true power amp) to power the speakers of a Dolby 5.1.2 Atmos set up? This way I could power 10 speakers! 3. What Pre-Amp would be good if #2 is possible? 4. Is there a set of ceiling speakers that would match my current set up? 5. If I dont want to install speakers on the ceiling, how bad are floor atmos speakers? I'm just concerned with the wiring and cables everywhere! Currently the cables go under the carpet so there are none in sight! Edited 7 hours ago by Serpeant

  6. I have started planning my HC room and looking into what speaker setup to go for. Doing some research it seems that the Atoms speaker setup isn't really compatible with the Aura or DTS-X setup. What concerns me the most is that DTS-X has been announced last year but still isn't available and isn't even promoted on the DTS home page. Aura 3D doesn't seem to have any support from the consumer AV industries so, not a likely candidate either. At some stage there was some talk of a joint venture of Aura and DTS-X, but at the moment it seems pretty dead. So, what is happening? I don't like to be stuck with a speaker layout restrictive to only one format. Aura and DTS seem to be more promising on that end.
  7. Item: Yamaha RX-V2095 Location: Abbotsford, Melbourne Price: $300 Item Condition: 8/10 (No discernable marks) Reason for selling: Selling on behalf of my bro, who's moving to the US Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Find a review here Some words from my bro (although I think mostly from the Yamaha website ): "The RX-V2095 is a 7 channel receiver providing the finest performance and processing available for music and video sound. Discrete power transistors rather than IC chips are used in the amplifier section to provide the cleanest sound possible. The amp delivers 100 watts each to the five channels i.e. Main, Centre and Rear at a very low 0.02% THD and 25 watts each to the front effects. This amp is a true audiophile quality product in perfect operating condition. I paid $2,100 for this unit and it comes packaged in a rare Gold and wood styling. Included are remotes (Main and Zone 2), AM Loop Antenna and the original User Manual." Feel free to shoot through any questions and I'll answer as soon as I can . 10. Hi all, An upcoming move of residence means I regretfully must part with the magnificent Jamo D600 speaker system. They're reference cinema sound quality and perform admirably for music. I currently have it configured in 9.4.2 FOR Dolby ATMOS/DTS X. I'm keeping my subwoofers. So, the system for sale includes : 7 x D600 LCR and 2 X D600 Surround Speakers. One of the surround speakers has a blemish on it but works perfectly. All other speakers are as new, with original boxes and packaging. I'm the only owner. The speakers are ideal for wall mounting. Pick up in West of Sydney is ideal or I can ship them interstate. Freight and cost would need to be arranged by the buyer. If bought new the price is about $7740 for these amazing speakers. I'm asking for $4500. If you are interested, let me know. I can text pictures to you or you're welcome to have them auditioned for you in Concord, Sydney . This is a regretful sale, believe me!! I wanted these for ages.
