  2. With just over two weeks remaining until Melbourne's most celebrated festival of sight and sound, the International HiFi Show, recent online ticket buyers have got loads to smile about. Those that purchased their tickets over the last few days were in with a chance to win some great prizes from our friends at Sennheiser and Devialet. To find out if you've won a prize, check out the announcement here: http://hifishow.com.au/news/hifi-show-ticket-promo-winners-announced Don't worry if you missed out, another promotion starts tonight and all purchasers are automatically entered into the draw.
  3. Ending tonight (Tuesday 17th October 2017), buy your tickets online for at a discounted price compared to buying at the door, and you'll also be in the running to win stacks of prizes. 4. I’m thinking my next upgrade could be either a PS Audio DirectStream Junior or a Devialet 200. Both mean I could sell my Chord 2Qute DAC and my Bluesound Node 2 streamer. Devialet means I could also sell my amps. I listen to only Tidal (and a few tracks from a Synology NAS). PS does MQA full unfold. Can anyone provide some advice on this or comparisons? Thanks
  5. There are a number of Devialet Phantom owners in the forum. Thought it would be useful to start an owner’s thread to exchange notes and also, be a good introduction for others. Many people know the Phantom as a lifestyle product with incredible bass but do not realise that a stereo pair makes a good hifi system. The Phantoms have 2 ranges, the newer, smaller Reactor and the Premier range. The Reactor is natively compatible with Spotify Connect, Airplay, UPnP and Bluetooth (with more to come) while a Premier has all the streaming connections, see here. The Phantoms are “Roon tested”, which means Roon is accessible via Airplay or via a Roon endpoint feeding the optical input. Phantoms will be “Roon Ready” when Roon Advanced Audio Transport (RAAT) is implemented; RAAT connectivity is in the works, ETA unknown. There are some limitations. The DAC is capable of playing up to 24/192 music, no support for DSD/DSF nor MQA. Roon can compensate by transcoding DSD/DSF and doing first MQA unfold. While the Phantoms are very good out of the box, these things make them even better: Get a stereo pair which is significantly better than one. However, it is not easy to audition them as a pair because most retailers (and Devialet!) position them as a lifestyle product. Thus, retailers usually set them up as singles in the store. Note that stereo pairing of the Premier range requires a Dialog hub (not needed, not compatible with Reactors). Put Phantoms on speaker stands (e.g. Devialet Tree and Treepod for Premier range, but other stands also work) to elevate them to ear level Pay attention to the position in the room, speaker alignment and toe-in. While the Phantoms are much more forgiving than many speakers, focussing on their placement will improve the sound Use Isoacoustics Aperta 100 aluminium stand. Putting the Phantom on an Isoacoustics stand reduces smearing of instruments and is particularly effective when the Phantom is sitting on furniture. Note that these stands are usually stocked and sold as black pairs; to get aluminium coloured pairs, retailer orders from distributor. Apply room correction to improve detail, resolution and bass management. Options include using miniDSP with Dirac Live, DSpeaker (both via optical input) or Roon room correction. For UPnP, use Minimserver Convolution. Official help on Phantoms installation and usage here. Devialet Chat is the unofficial user forum. Please post your experience with the Devialet Phantoms and suggest other improvements that worked for you. And questions are most welcome.
  6. Hi All, Thanks Insiders for all the RSVP's after the Insiders Email. Looks like a bigger crowd is coming this time! The main event will be the first ever SA demonstration of the Devialet D-Premier amplifier with VAF's flagship Signature i93. Find out why John Atkinson of Stereophile said: "Devialet's D-Premier amplifier is the most extraordinary product I have reviewed for Stereophile. Superb sound quality, future-proof design, everything you need in one box—it is the epitome of what a high-end audio product should be. Wow!" You WILL be impressed by this VAF/Devialet combination. Insiders gatherings are a low key after-work 'unwind' events. Drinks (beer & wine) as well as light food on VAF. Feel free to bring your own CD's and vinyl. Other than the amazing VAF/Devialet combination, we'll be showing: New VAF models, some other interesting new gear, and some seriously amazing one-night-only offers to VAF Insiders members. So join us and blow off some steam after work on Friday. Explore new audio equipment, listen to good music, meet and speak with other VAF insiders. SNA members in SA are also welcome to attend. If you can, please RSVP here which will help us plan drinks & food. We know however that it's Friday after work and you may not know until the last minute if you can make it. If you can't RSVP that's ok, it's still ok to just drop in on Friday. This Friday, June 28th, From 5:30pm to around 8:30pm At VAF, 52 North Terrace Kent Town SA
  7. Hi, I am curious are people with the Devialet selling their external DACs and using the internal Devialet DAC? Or are people using an external DAC and using one of the two analog inputs? I have an Antipodes DS Reference into a Meitner MA1 and found the sound to be far superior compared to running the Antipodes directly into the Devialet. What are other Devialet owners doing? And how are you configuring your setup? Thanks, Peter
  8. For our August club meeting we’re very pleased to be able to present Devialet and Sonus Faber. Our Devialet for the day is being kindly provided by club member Andrew Baldwin. The Sonus Faber speakers are being kindly provided by the Lifestyle Store in North Parramatta. (Refer to https://www.lifestylestore.com.au/.) Alex Wilson from the Lifestyle Store will present the equipment. The Devialet has many technological advances. One of many is SAM (Speaker Amplifier Matching). This Devialet functionality tailors the signal to better match the speakers it is driving. Alex and Andrew will explain and demonstrate the SAM function of the Devialet. Note that Devialet products are also available through the Lifestyle Store. My brief search through the club records suggests we’ve never before presented Sonus Faber speakers. And I’m certain we’ve never had Devialet presented. So this holds great promise to be a very interesting and enjoyable club meeting. The featured system on the day will be as follows: Sonus Faber Olympica III Floor Standing Speakers: Taken from the Lifestyle website… “Sonus faber was established in 1983 and produces premium handcrafted and beautifully designed loudspeakers. Based in the historic city of Vicenza, Italy, Sonus faber's designs incorporate finely polished wood, leather and metal to create exquisite works of audio art. The Sonus faber name lies behind a tale of a passion for music so deep, that it goes beyond passive listening, giving life to something new. 9. Devialet Expert Pro Integrated Amp, Phantom Gold and PMC Speakers 8pm Wednesday 16th August, visitors welcome. Willis Room, City of Whitehorse Offices Maroondah Highway (Whitehorse Road), Nunawading Melway Map 48 Ref G9 Contact: 9437 1249 In 2009, a French manufacturer Devialet, set the audio world on its ear with the introduction of the D-Premier DAC-Integrated Amplifier. This unique component, housed in a slim shiny case the size of a laptop, featured a host of customizations that had never before been incorporated into an audio component. A digital preamplifier section that could accept digital as well as line and phono-level analogue signals; a high-powered digital signal processor (DSP) that could perform real-time processing of the music signals for equalization and room correction; and an innovative amplifier topology Analogue Digital Hybrid (ADH), which set Devialet apart from other Hi-Fi manufacturers. The current line up of amplifiers called Expert Pro, start off with their entry level model Expert 130 Pro which delivers 130Wpc into 6 ohms and goes up to their most powerful model, the Expert 1000 Pro. Leigh Fischer from INTERDYN will be demonstrating the many features of the Devialet amplifier with a pair of PMC fact.12 speakers. With new technology called Speaker Active Matching (SAM) the amplifiers output signal can be optimized for your particular speaker. A testament to the pace of Devialets technical evolution is incorporated in the Phantom speaker. Their active loudspeaker backed with R&D and out-of-the-box thinking sets a path for the future. By design, the Phantom goes against and beyond the existing establishment. Egg like in shape and white only in colour, the technology contained within the Phantom speaker is very impressive. The Gold Phantom will also be demonstrated at the club. Its novel combination of 'Class A' and 'Class D' amplification, 4500W at 108db, and their 'Bass Implosion' technology measuring ruler flat from 20Hz, is the absolute demonstration of Devialets design and engineering. Devialet has firmly cemented its name in the audiophile world. Their integrated amplifiers and Phantom speakers, play host to the most exciting and innovative technologies available in sound reproduction. The future in Hi-Fidelity has arrived. 10. What have I DONE!??? I now have a stereo pair of mutant Stormtrooper helmets with gold bling! I moved from a setup with all these components and lots of cables to something which resembled a pair of mutant Stormtrooper helmets with gold bling ! Otherwise known as Devialet Phantom Gold, they provided superb audio quality expected of a high end hifi system in a pair of components, each slightly larger than a soccer ball ! What convinced me? It started with a post from @andrewhollo (thank you Andrew!) who moved from the same brand active speakers to the Phantom Golds and I had a discussion with him. The reviews of the Phantom Gold often praised the audio quality, particularly the bass but gave a thumbs down for the pricing. However, most reviews were for a single speaker targeted at the wireless market. However, this article changed things: Steve Huff is well known in the photography world but has a passion for hifi. He swapped over to the Phantom Golds with improved AQ. Steve mentioned that getting the phantoms on stands and positioning the speakers were critical. It was backed up by Andrew’s description of a night and day difference between a single Gold and a stereo pair. The audition at Klapp AV, as a single speaker (& typical of most retailers), confirmed the ability to deliver detail and bass. Despite the impressive bass, I still had some concerns about the whether it could deliver good enough bass in my difficult room. Had to rely on reviews, and Andrew, for their feedback on stereo performance. So How Do They Sound? The Phantom Golds provide a superb musical sound stage with detail. Sound stage is open and airy, much better than previously. Resolution of individual instruments has improved. Details are all there. Regarding the bass, there was no doubt that the Golds are better than old setup without subs. The room is an open plan family room with no bass traps. The Golds lose to the highly optimised dual sub setup but that is not a surprise. It took a long time to get to that state with a target curve that boosts bass by 4 dB, but tails off below 30 Hz. However, the Golds matched the setup optimised with dual subs without a target curve. Impressive indeed! ? Potentially, bass could be improved further by playing with the positioning within the room; this flexibility was not available in the previous setup. WOW! I was losing almost nothing with the bass and gained a better musical sound stage with the helmets! Apps are not perfect Not too sure about the Spark App which is not as good as BluOS. Am using BubbleUpnp app on to access the music on the NAS and that is working reasonably well. Please note that BubbleUpnp app is extremely sensitive to wifi dropouts and not recommended for rooms with poor wifi. A move to Roon may be the next step. Lessons learnt Don’t dismiss a system because it looks different. Simplicity should be the driver Enjoy the music not the journey/thrill of upgrading and adding components which leads to increased complexity; see lesson 2 Conclusion A stereo pair of Devialet Phantom Golds on stands delivers audio quality that can at least match many high end audio systems costing a lot more. It may be a challenge to audition them as a stereo pair on stands, but until you do, do not dismiss them. A stereo pair of Phantom Golds is a seriously good setup. Can now spend more time listening, which is what this game should be about… ------------- Before and after Components and cabling replaced
  11. Item: Devialet Expert 200 Location: Melb Price: $5000 Item Condition: Excellent except for some marks around the buttons on the remote which were there when i got it. The remaining 26 months of warranty will be transferred once purchased. Have really enjoyed my time with this unit, the thing I miss already is just picking up the ipad and choosing a song on Roon. The Dev automatically starts up and starts playing music. Then when it is finished, it turns itself off again. Oh, and it sounds good too! Pictures: Realised I am a good dust photographer so have included some stock pics also. (I cant even see the bloody dust!!)
  12. Extra Info: The Devialet was purchased last year and I’m the second owner. It was originally purchased in June 2015 so basically you still have 1 more month factory warranty until June 2020. This is a superb all in one amplifier. There are reasons this get many great reviews from audiophile around the world. I didn't believe how good it is in such a small package until blown away by its sound. Works perfectly since I bought it last year, not a single fault. My dream is to add another Devialet to make it dual mono but due to downsizing and financial purpose this has to go. The Devialet amplifier is also a piece of art which will suit any house and your partner will be happy to live with it. The remote is nicely built and very enjoyable to use. The amp is dead quiet. I have no problem running my Clearaudio Concept straight to the phono of the Devialet. All setup done via Devialet Configurator. A lot of fun to play around with SAM on/off and other functions which can be easily done via the Configurator and SD card. Although I have the original packaging, I prefer local pick up in western suburb. Let me know if you have any questions. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
