The September 2016 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us meet once again for an afternoon of fine music, great sound and amicable company. Each month the Sydney Audio Club presents an excellent high end audio system for our members and guests. Feel free to bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. For September, we are very pleased to have Dr Rod Crawford of Legend present (refer to http://www.legendspeakers.com.au/). Legend has been designing and crafting excellent speakers in Australia since 1995. Rod will present the large Big Red Active (BRA) speaker and the smaller Kanga 8s and Kurre 8s. Hypex NC122MP amplifier. In Rod’s words… “Class D OEM modules that are only just coming off the production line. They are built into the BRAs to drive their mid & treble that also have a BASH 300W class H amp for the bass/sub. The HDP-4 will be used as a full processor for the active BRAs and also in bypass mode just as a DAC for the passive Kangas and Kurres. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others. Feel free to come and hear the capabilities of the system, or to just share the experience with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. After some fantastic feedback after the first demonstration of the latest active version of the I-93MKII speakers at the Melbourne international HiFi show and sending them for a couple of private demo's they've finally landed back in our showrooms for audition. Connected to the outstanding DEQX to control the cross over requirements and with three channels of amplification on board each speaker (600 watts in total!) they're sounding pretty darn good. You can see the image below, standard passive version back plate next to the active one. In this instance we're running from the DEQX processor via balanced XLR cables to the internal amplification. We will release further information about these and the other active options we're finalising. Basically expect active versions of the current signature range, and upgrade options for existing owners. It includes the Najda DSP which is basically similar to a DEQX. This has 8 x outputs which come from it's inbuilt dac. Najda Overview Najda is a multi-purpose stereo applications electronic board designed to sit at the heart of custom sound systems, between sources and amplifiers. Najda indeed is both a multi-way DSP filtering processor, and also a complete interfacing solution providing the same comfort of use one would expect from a modern integrated system - but in your custom package. Najda as a multi-way processor Najda takes on its input an analogue stereo signal or a digital one - it can be SPDIF coaxial, SPDIF optical or merely I2S. The latter suits particularly well to a USB to I2S converter. Digital signals pass through the onboard sample rate converter so that there's no need worrying about the source's sampling rate. Includes amplification (Marantz MM8003), DEQX, custom Legend matched center speaker, calibrated (with file) Earthworks DM23 microphone (this is an upgrade) and all handmade cables (silver wire interconnects). The Tikandi system was purchased at the start of this year from a Stereonet member 10 year warrantee on speakers from 2013 - which Legend will honour (I have checked with them..). Although a reluctant sale, I'm a realist. After years in a loud industry, I don't have the ears that I used to and this system is wasted on me. The DEQX unit allows adjustment to room acoustics, and is currently setup with a recently acquired file from DEQX - their support (even to a second hand owner such as me) has been first rate. The system is working perfectly and will stand up to any test. Speakers are in very good condition - there are some very minor marks which are unnoticeable in normal conditions. The amp and DEQX are in perfect condition. Microphone has been used once and reboxed. Interconnects are custom made Silverwire. Speaker cables supplied by Legend. Item: DEQX HDP5 Location: Northern Beaches, Sydney, NSW Price: $4,400 (Original owner paid $6,495 for the unit for DEQX in March 2016) Item Condition: MINT Reason for selling: Dedicated acoustically treated listening room Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: This unit was originally purchased in early March 2016 (classified listing noted below) by @Tubularbells who then sold it to me for the price listed in this ad. Since taking delivery of the unit it hasn't left its box/packaging. I purchase the unit because I was looking to mitigate the inherent constraints that exist when it comes to optimising a two channel setup in a room that isn't acoustically treated, which is the case when it comes to my current listening room (read: lounge). Since I was running an Accuphase integrated & Chord DAVE I was specifically after a HDP-5, HDP-4 or Pre Mate + as I only wanted to utilise the DEQX's timing and speaker correction functionality via the digital inputs and outputs as opposed to its (apparently very good) DAC & Pre-Amp. However upon picking up the unit things have moved quicker than anticipated re: plans to knock-down and rebuild our place. We'll be demolishing in two months time, and hopefully in our new home (and me in my new listening room) by early 2018. Between now and then it will be apartment living for me which means I'm in the process of selling quite a lot of my gear as I'd rather move it on and start afresh in 2018. Item: DEQX HDP-5 (Black Gloss) Location: Sunbury, VIC Price: $4900 Item Condition: As new in original box with standard power IEC cable, and remote control. Reason for selling: Not being used. Payment Method: EFT/Paypal (+ fees) Extra Info: The HDP-5 is DEQX's flagship preamp/processor. It's a specialised product that is best described by them: https://www.deqx.com/products/hdp-5/ It's running a relatively recent firmware that includes Roon Ready and streaming. There's likely a newer firmware now though. I remember I had Alan from DEQX here a couple of years ago and after hearing A/B corrections on some little speakers, I proclaimed "every system needs a DEQX". I still maintain that however, I'm simplifying my system and the DEQX is just not being used right now. I had the HDP-4 which I used extensively, however since I upgraded to HDP-5 I really haven't reintroduced DEQX to this system. So essentially, it's a new unit. It is packed away but presents as new.
