Various - Songs Of A Psychedelic Age 1983 AUS 2LP compilation gatefold PROMO (Telmak - TMAK-068) VG+/VG+ Appears to be signed by Don Bruner (one of the compilers of this album) on the back cover. He also stuck a few interesting notes on the back about where he got the Monterey poster pictured on the sleeve, and some tracks he wanted to add but couldn't. "SAMPLE - NOT FOR SALE" promo sticker on cover. Both vinyl in great shape., although need a decent clean before playing (been in good storage for decades) Cover is awesome and only light wear Rare copy of a great compilation and first promo edition I've ever seen. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Delivery Methods: NO PICKUPS SORRY - mail only. Bank transfers, or PayPal (Friends & Family only, no notes) are both welcome. STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW: Once sold, a donation to SNA of 5% of items total will follow. Any title here gets a brand new inner and/or outer quality Blake sleeve as needed before shipping. I try and ship 3-4 days a week. THE SMALL PRINT: I fully guarantee everything I offer - if you don't like any item for whatever reason, return it at my expense for a full refund, no questions asked (verified 30 day+ active Forum members only thanks).. Original contents are stored inside the cover. I try to ship all records themselves outside the cover, so any postal damage is minimised. I use mostly s/hand pre-made cardboard mailers for all orders, and these virtually guarantee safe arrival of your record (they are also MUCH faster to pack). Combined postage to anywhere in Australia at cost (or close enough) and is EXTRA (ie. not included in prices). ABSOLUTELY NO LOCAL PICKUPS - don't ask - it's not going to happen. Complain to me loudly if anything goes wrong (although it barely ever does) - and it'll be fixed, in your favour.

The Best of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler (Mercury, 2009) is one of those compilation albums that serves the band poorly. Allmusic.com says the 2 CD version of the Mercury 2009 compilation is excellent due to its sequencing and telling the story of the storytelling Mark Knopfler. These virtues are not quite so evident in just one disc, alas. Here's my 14 tracks. "Down to the Waterline" "Water of Love" "Six Blade Knife" "Once Upon a Time in the West" "News" "Communiqué" "Lady Writer" "Angel of Mercy" "Portobello Belle" "Follow Me Home" "Sultans of Swing" (with Eric Clapton, live 1988) "Industrial Disease" "Money for Nothing" (Mark Knopfler, Sting) "Twisting by the Pool" I've tried for rough chronological order. The band lost something special when David Knopfler left and much of what remained was hollowed out when Pick Withers departed. My choices reflect that view and you'd guess right that Communique is my favourite Dire Straits album. I've avoided most of the homophobic songs but Money for Nothing gets in because of the killer riff and because it's a meathead talking, not the songwriter. Twisting By the Pool gets in due to its infectious daggy chutzpah. I've avoided Tunnel of Love because it tries too hard, and most of the other famous ones because they are too much the examples of craft. The early demos and live shows have the feel but I've stuck with the official releases (except for the 1988 Nelson Mandela concert which was legally available in Australia for a year or so). I'm not a fan of the storytelling Knopfler, instead I prefer him as a decent guitarist fronting a late night blues bar rhythm section.

http://www.stereo.ne...doom-and-gloom/ Discussion on the above thread about the Rolling Stones new song "Doom and Gloom" and their music being a little spotty after the epic run through to Exile. Please list the 10 Rolling Stones songs from after 1978 that you would make up a compilation Best of the Later Stones. Nothing from Some Girls or earlier please - all have to be released after 1978. (If that means music mined, revived and scrubbed up from before that date, well, fair enough. After all, let's face it, it's good enough for Neil Young). It is a Best of, not the Greatest Hits, in other words it's not just about the singles. The Stones have a great ear for singles but some of their most moving material IMHO is Keith's blues work on the album tracks. But before you list the entire bonus CD to Exile just to make a point, please reflect that the intent here is to find the pearls from after 1978.
