  1. I recently upgraded my speakers and upgrading from my Hugo TT will be the next step. On one hand the choice seems easy, Chord make great products and I’ve been happy with everything they’ve made that I’ve heard so a DAVE with a hope to maybe add a Blu Mk 2 later on (for upsampling rather that CD duties) seems like a safe option. However, for several years the Berkeley Alpha Reference has been sitting in the back of my mind. I’ve never heard one, I don’t think there’s a dealer in Melbourne, and I’m pretty sure I’ll never be able to a/b test an Alpha with a DAVE, but the reviews of the latest version seem stellar with comparisons routinely to DCS stacks rather than Chord products. From my perspective, the 24/192 limit and no DSD in the Alpha Reference doesn’t make any difference to me – all of my downloads (HDTracks and Presto Classical) are PCM in AIFF or FLAC and then I use Tidal for steaming, thus, I would say less than 1% of my music is DSD and then Roon can fix that. So the question is, am I crazy for considering the Berkeley when I know a DAVE will without doubt give me 99% of what I’m looking? Any thoughts, opinions or experiences would be much appreciated!

  9. Item: Chord Signature Speaker Cable 2mtr Location: Williamstown, VIC Price: $450 $400 + postage Item Condition: Good Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I bought these as a second set - I liked my first set so much that I bought these. The Chord Signature speaker cables were my first serious high-end speaker cables. I'd been stuffing around with DIY cables, and cheap cables, so when I put the money down for these they were the most expensive speaker cables that I'd ever bought. But boy oh boy did they deliver. These cables will make your music come alive, improve the sound stage depth and width of your playback, and delivers a vice like grip on full and extended bass. Fantastic upgrade for someone who wants to step into the high-end without breaking the bank. This pair are black, and are slightly different to my first pair that are a later version with the red and black outer sheath. When I purchased them I thought I got ripped off, but I did quite a bit of research and these are the way the Signature speaker cables came out originally. Spades at one end, banana plugs at the other. Spades show signs of wear, but they are still solid and reliable. I did a compare with my other set, and I could hear absolutely no difference. So for these are a real bargain as the current version costs $1900: https://www.vinylrevival.com.au/products/chord-signature-speaker-cable?utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&utm_campaign=gs-2018-11-03&ref=SFDR_238078668&variant=13759816899&ptcid=27736_389_379368720&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIraHOhIqQ3wIVhCQrCh3ihQwpEAYYASABEgIPi_D_BwE PLEASE NOTE - These are a stiff cable so need a little more space than flexible cables, but unless you have your speakers up against the wall, shouldn't be a problem. 13. Item: Chord Hugo (Black) dac/amp newer edition with bigger RCA ports and Leather Case - sale pending Location: Glen Waverley, Melbourne Price: $1395 (RRP: $3000) over 50% off Item Condition: Excellent (mintish) Reason for selling: Saving up Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: There are many many 5 star and award reviews out there. Just google "chord hugo review" and read away. This is a truly excellent dac/amp that sounds amazing with everything from IEMs to my HD650, Beyer T1, HD800 and even MrSpeakers Ether Flow Planars. I've only owned this for a week or so but my finances have recently taken a few unexpected hits. I have actually ordered a $176 Hugo Link Curious Cable for this and it hasn't even arrived yet. I will include it for only an additional $150. It will be brand new and unused so let the cable burn in for a week or so before judging it. I've own 4 other Curious Cables and out of the box they can sound pretty average. After a week, you won't be able to live without them. Also as the title and pictures suggest, this unit will come with a nice leather case. Pictures:

I have the original box, pick up welcome, shipping AU wide $15. a Pair QED Reference XLR Analogue audio 40 Interconnect 0.6m 2XLR-2XLR L/R-Channel (Stereo Pair). THE REFERENCE XLR 40 BUILDS ON THE MULTI-AWARD WINNING AUDIO 40 RANGE OF PRODUCTS, NOW AVAILABLE IN XLR FORM. XLR 40 is designed primarily for low capacitance as this has been identified by QED as a major factor which leads to a high fidelity experience. Further steps have been taken to eliminate minute timing errors in the cable by the use of a special floating Zn/Mn ferrite jacket alongside use of QEDs unique 'Tri-Conductor' technology reducing signal to ground capacitance to vanishingly low levels. *****HI-FI CHOICE GROUP TEST WINNER, AUGUST 2014***** "Build quality and feel are very reassuring - you're immediately drawn to the smart looking 'XLR Neutrik Connectors." What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision June 2014 Sound Quality: Before the QED loom, the panellists have taken a mixed view of the various wires played to them. They’ve found positives and negatives, liked some and been lukewarm about others. But two out of the three listeners express a strong preference for this set of cables, applauding it for its clean, open, even sound that doesn’t try to do anything too clever. Instead it is very accomplished at almost every facet of the music, and makes things look rather easy. Pictures:

  17. Item: Chord Epic Super Twin (bi-wire) speaker cables - 2M Location: Sydney Price: SOLD Item Condition: Very good (9/10) Reason for selling: A different direction Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, EFT, Paypal (+ fee) Extra Info: For sale is a pair of bi-wire (factory terminated) Chord Epic speaker cables, the Chord Epic Super Twin. Otherwise known in these parts as "the hosepipes". These Chord Company cables were made as either standard single wire (Epic) or bi-wire (Epic Super Twin). For example (new): https://www.lifestylestore.com.au/chord-epic-twin-3m-pair-factory-terminated.html Reviewers have said: (Techradar) "This is a modestly thick cable (10mm in diameter) but it is very tractable and certainly less bulky than Chord's other new cable, Epic Super Twin. This cable mirrors the construction of Epic Twin but doubles up the conductors, making it ideal for bi-wiring or 'shotgunning', where two sets of cable are connected to one set of 4mm plugs. Interestingly, the two cables have much the same aural fingerprint, which is best summed up as being musical without being noticeably 'hi-fi'. There is no sheen or edge to this cable, rather it has a relaxed quality, with a full and solid bass, but not so full it sounds anything less than well controlled. By the same token, it is a detailed-sounding cable, but not in the hyper-analytical sense in which the term is often used for some true high-end cables. It's not the sort of cable to startle you in any particular way; it's just always a pleasure to listen to. But you will find it takes a long time to fully burn in - not unknown with previous Chord cables." (https://www.techradar.com/au/reviews/audio-visual/hi-fi-and-audio/hi-fi-accessories/chord-co-epic-twin-93958/review) (Hifi Choice) "To sum up these cables in one word, they are 'musical'. In short, they are quite simply a superb sounding set of speaker cables." (https://www.chord.co.uk/product-review-epic-twin-speaker-cable-hi-fi-choice-sept-2014/) Pictures:

  21. Further information: As new condition. Not a scratch on the main unit, having been loved and cared for. I had this paired with some Focal Clears and it is delightful, but now I'm upgrading to a desktop DAC/Amp. Comes with the original Chord case and a 200GB micro-sd card. Originally bought from Carlton Audio Visual in late 2018, and I am the first and only owner. No problems with the unit at all. You've read all the reviews, you know this thing sounds amazing. Best portable unit you can find. I am sad to let this go! 22. Extra Info: I purchased this from a SNA member around Christmas 2019 to drive my headphones. But I also bought a Woo Audio dac/amp at the same time. So I need to sell some Dac to get funding. The RRP was $6,800, and currently having a sale on Apollohifi for $4,499. I am priced it for sale. This unit is heavier than it looks like and packaged with a lot of high tech. It has volume control so can be used as a preamp as well. Chord's sound is balanced overall, the bass and guitar sounding natural and present in their spatial locations. Comes with remote, wall charger, and USB stick with drivers for windows. I do not have the original box, but can pack it safely for inter-state shipping at buyers' expense.
