Hi all, Semi new to this forum, come in here from time to time for advice and research. I thought I would put up my theatre room build progress and you can critique, assist, give me ideas and help me along the way. I have had to repost this thread as the last one has expired before I could update it with some long overdue progress from along time ago. The room isn't a completely square room, access to the room comes from an angled corner in one of the main hallways in my house. I believe it was built in mind with the house to have it as a larger lounged TV room or formal dining but not a theatre. This is where I have come in to rebuild and make this idea possible. THE STEP First we started off with a step, max standardized Australian step height 190mm. Built the platform with 4x2 wood and finished the top off with 21mm thick ply. Using left overs of my bamboo hard wood flooring throughout the house we incorporated it on the face of the step. This is yet to be completed. FALSE WALL due to the dimensions of the room and the way it was shaped we had to build a false wall over the existing window. This false wall has a few things kept in mind, blocking the window, sound dednening that wall which is closest to the neighbors, creating inserts for the speakers, amp and other equipment and hide all wiring behind this area and still have access to it with the outside window if i ever needed it. BULKHEAD/CEILING The bulkhead and ceiling was created for a few reasons, mainly it was for the look but other reasons were to hide aircon ducting and cabling through it. This was done with 4x2 wood. We created the design so the bulkhead has a lip which i can run the stripped lighting around to have the glow effect on the ceiling. -
Just saw this new 4K UHD projector announced and available for sale, January 2018. Does anyone know if BENQ will be demoing this projector at the Melbourne Hifi show? Don't see any info about it on the BENQ website as yet.

Hi. Would anybody know of a good repairer for projectors in Perth? 4 years old, well out of warranty yet dissapointing length of time to last I believe. Is repair even worthwhile?

I need to replace the old projector after moving in a new place with the following set-up. The screen size of 120 inch (2.4m wide and 1.8m high) with an aspect ratio of 4:3. The distance between the screen and the projector (hang at 70cm below the ceiling) is 4m. I am considering the below projectors given my budget. Epson EB-U32, EB-U130, TW5300 or BENQ TH670 or W1090. Which one is best suitable for my setting? I check the throw ratio for them but all the numbers are based on 16:9/10 ratio which is not very helpful or clear. See below Epson EB-U32 (throw ratio: 1.38(wide) - 1.68(tele); native aspect ratio 16:10; Zoom 1-1.2) Epson EB-U130 (throw ratio: 1.38(wide) - 1.68(tele); native aspect ratio 16:10; Zoom 1-1.2) Epson TW5300 (throw ratio: 1.22(wide) - 1.47(tele); native aspect ratio 16:9; Zoom 1-1.2) BENQ TH670 (throw ratio: 1.15 - 1.5; native aspect ratio 16:9; Zoom 1.3x) BENQ W1090 (throw ratio: 1.5 - 1.8; native aspect ratio 16:9; Zoom 1-1.2) Really need helps to make sure that I order the correct product given my current set-up. Hi All, Parents are wanting a new projector. Right now I'm looking at the benq w1070 for 900 or the benq w7000 for 1800. We will be using a 120" 16:9 fixed frame screen. ceiling mounted at about 3.5m (can be moved). A few questions Is the w7000 worth double? is the w7000 as noisey? would you recommend a different projector around those price points? cheers,

Update - over a month on from my email to prompt a reply from mid last year, and I have only received a reply from the accounts rep I have been emailing saying he has CC'd in reply the two staff from tech department for an update, however no reply from them. At this point I am losing faith in their ability to address this, as A) it is coming up to almost 2 years since flagging this issue and there are already a new range of projectors released. Before I prompt BenQ for a reply, again, I wanted to run an idea past everyone here. Could I perhaps request that the projector be replaced, however with one of the new models that fits in to the line in the same manner that the W1500 did aka the new HT4050 (US) / W3000 (EU/AU). From my understanding, the new HT4050/W3000 slots in similarly to their line up as did the W1500. An option may be to request them to replace my W1500 with the W3000 and include the wireless kit, as this will approximate a like for like replacement. Thoughts on this idea? Thanks buddy. I mean I paid around AUD2000 for this, so I wouldn't call it exactly cheap. Either way, the issue does seem excessive. They are getting the emails, as they confirm when they receive, just the tech department seems to be off on perpetual vacation. Pretty disappointing for BenQ if I'm honest -

Thread for the owners So I received my W7000 today (yes!!) and I turned it on after I got home from work. It worked, was a little concerned couriering it all the way to Perth! That's what insurance is for anyways! So when I started it up, the set up screen was really small, but you could see the outline of the much larger screen. I didn't have time to add on digital tuner, so wasn't sure if the picture would get naturally larger. I will give it a full run on Thursday. Anyone else own one of these bad boys? Cheers Angelo

I raised a post awhile back on Whirlpool, on getting some advice for buying a new projector. I was very close to ordering a BenQ W1100, but feel that I have not considered other projectors, and also a little worried that I am spending more than I need based on my requirements. So, this new post is just to try and spark some comments/advice into alternate models or perhaps confirm that the W1100 is a good choice for my needs. The other cheaper model I have just been considering, is the BenQ W1060. I think this makes more sense, but seen less talk of this one. I see OfficeWorks have it for $999 which seems good (Which is another Q, wheres a good place to get one?) My Needs... - Do not currently have a TV, and do not have Foxtel. - I DL typically 1-2 shows a day to watch in the evening on my 27' monitor. - I DL 2 movies a week usually watched at weekend, - I only watch DVDRips but will DL BluRayRips if a film. - Im 30, with no kids but watch all the above with my gf. - Also like the idea of having friends over to watch movies. - Would use either my a Asus 1201N netbook (ION graphics/HDMI output) or my girlfriends iMac. May consider a HTPC build in the future. - Not fussed about 3D or onboard sound, and will use my AudioEngine A5s for audio. - Budget wise 1400 is really the top end. Because of bulbs, prob not going to be looking at 2nd hand. - Bulb life scares me. I want something that lasts. - I may watch some TV on it, therefore an aerial in would be nice (but not essential) - Now the big one. I will mostly use it in my living room, but really like the idea of using it outdoors at night. I was thinking of having it on my window sill (will create a stand, but the projector remains indoors, window open) and then project out to a screen about 13-14ft away. This is still all under cover, and there is not too much lighting to interfere with picture. So with all that said, what should I be looking at? Was also looking at the W1200 and something a bit cheaper a with the MX511 Are these along with the W1100 overkill? Ideally would be great to find a good model nearer the 1k mark, but one thats still bright and considered a HT-projector. Would really appreciate your advice. I am not a video-phile, but still want something that will look good and last. N

guys, need some guidance. my BENQ W2000 which has been running w/o incident the past 3+ years has experienced problems this week. i noticed the RED LAMP LIGHT was on one day, so turned it off and ordered a new lamp. the new ORIGINAL replacement lamp arrived today. (OSRAM globe I think). on opening the projector i realised the original lamp had exploded, as i saw pieces of glass on the floor inside. i cleared out all the pieces of glass meticulously until no more pieces could be seen or heard when shaking. installed new LAMP and on powering up, after 1-2 minutes the 2-beeps and RED LAMP LIGHT turns back on. tried re-seating LAMP, opened and further cleansed.... FANS all seem to turn on OK as its blowing from all sides, but then the same, 2 beeps and RED LIGHT. i'm confident the genuine lamp is not faulty. what are my options going forward, that I can try myself or that someone (SYDNEY, South) can look at for me. luv this projector, not ready to replace with new model yet... thanks in advance! -
