  1. Here is my system. I have finally finished a lot of the tweaks I have been experimenting with. The MB2se's sound much, much better than they did at the AV show (thankfully). Assisi paid a visit today to try out a few things and have a listen. He owns ML2 limited's and a PS Audio PWDac as well. We both felt the PMC MB2se's have the same beautiful midrange and treble as the ML2's. The PMC's effortlessly disappear and reproduce realistic soundstage width and depth. In my space (quite large and open) the bass is perfectly proportioned and controlled. The sound is very much "live".
  2. The June meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company. Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. This month, computer audio will take centre stage. No doubt you’ve noticed there are fewer and fewer shops where you can buy CDs/SACDs and vinyl these days – it is expected that that will only get worse. Downloads are very prevalent now, and thanks to sites such as HD Tracks you can download high-res music. Whether you are already a computer audio whiz or a newbie considering it all, don’t miss this meeting. We will have a plethora of DACs and USB converters powered by an Ultrabook front-end. The equipment line up is as follows: Wyred4Sound DAC2 – The DAC2 utilizes the famous ESS Reference Audio 32 bit DAC. Provides 24-bit 192kHz Asynchronous USB input, proprietary discrete output stages, ESS Time Jitter Domain Eliminator, fully balanced design with balanced inputs and balanced outputs, upgradable boards and oversized toroidal transformer. Bryston BDA-1 DAC – The BDA-1 is a state-of-the-art external DAC using fully discrete Class-A proprietary Bryston analog circuits, two independent linear power supplies and dual Crystal CS-4398 DAC chips. It features an impressive array of inputs for USB, COAX, OPTICAL, AES-EBU and BNC equipped digital devices. For audio outputs, the BDA-1 offers both balanced XLR as well as unbalanced RCA stereo connectors on the rear panel. The BDA-1 is RS-232 software upgradeable. Bryston BDP-1 Digital Music Player - The BDP-1 focuses solely on playing high resolution files and will support 16 and 24-bit word lengths and 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192kHz sampling frequencies. It accesses these digital files from any USB device – either thumb-drive or hard-drive. The easiest way to understand the BDP-1 is to think of it as a 21st century updated CD player. Instead of CD’s as the music source though, it utilizes USB thumb drives or USB hard-drives as the music storage source. Empirical Audio Off-Ramp 5 USB Converter – The Off-Ramp 5 is a fifth-generation product that supports sample-rates of up to 24/192 and uses Asynchronous USB protocol for reduced jitter. The Off-Ramp 5 also includes an HDMI I2S output, so that DACs with these inputs (such as the W4S DAC2) can be driven directly avoiding S/PDIF conversions. Toshiba Ultrabook with Windows 7 and SSD running JRiver Media Centre. Dell 27†Ultra HD display panel. Oppo BDP-95 Universal player. Wyred4Sound STP-SE preamp. Classe CA400 stereo amplifier – 400wpc into 8 ohms. B&W 801 Series 2 speakers. As usual, the second half of the music sessions will be BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD/DVD-A/Bluray (audio only) or USB flash drives - sorry, no vinyl this month. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind. Members and Guests welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door. Venue: Epping Creative Centre Address: 26 Stanley St, Epping Doors open 1pm Meeting starts at 2pm Best regards, Tom Waters President Sydney Audio Club www.sydneyaudioclub.org.au tomwaters@sydneyaudioclub.org.au
