  1. Further Information: Selling my Sugden Masterclass IA-4 Pure Class A Integrated Amplifier. This is the largest and most powerful integrated pure class A amplifier in the Sugden range. The pure class A power output circuit has been upgraded from the A21 series with a larger power supply and improved soothing and output capacitors. Gold plated circuit boards, full relay switching and a precision input selector switch offer further detailing. The pre-amplifier section of the IA-4 is a bespoke design, with surprising clarity and detail. The most noticeable feature is the ability to create a large performance with depth and height on any type of music. The unit currently retails for $11,500 and is difficult to find in a black finish. This is a truly exceptional sounding amp, purchased new only a few months ago from the Grooveman. Price is firm given the substantial reduction over the RRP. I have all the original packing and wrapping materials so can ship safely, but preference will be given initially to local buyers. See below for some of the keys specs, with further information available on the Sugden website. Plenty of Sugden reviews online including a review by Pearl Accoustics. Specifications Inputs Three line level, tape, MM phono, balanced Outputs Variable pre-out, fixed out, loudspeaker out Volume Control Remote control RC5 compatible Tape Monitor and record off Line Input sensitivity 125mV Phono Input Sensitivity 2mV (MM) Power Output 33 Watts per channel into 8ohm Frequency Response +/-1dB 14Hz-200kHz Bandwidth 6Hz-300kHz Signal to Noise >84dB Gross Weight (packed) 20kgs
  2. Here is a wonderful piece of analogue engineering from the UK firm Sugden, makers of great audi gear. In great condition with beautiful plinth, no lid. Check out the detailing on the wood, it’s is much better looking than the standard. The wood is also a much richer red than is appears here. There a little burring right at the apex of one corner, but the others are shcmick as. Original sau2 tonearm, I think made by Grace. suspension has a good spring to it, Stylus is at the end of life. Includes all the paperwork and gear. In the late 70's early 80's these were the mark of an enthusiast and, in fact, a connoisseur. The tonearm didn't lift up at the end of play! But the sound: to die for / (I hope you didn't.) I had my introduction to the Specials and Reggae on one of these. It accompanied its owner from north of Hadrian's wall to our subtropical mountain kingdom of West Queanbeyan, in ancient days, long before it possessed even the thought of a flag pole looking like a Macdonald's sign, and definitely before the erection of gigantic wooden phallus near the township of Belco. (he would definitely have approved of that, for personal reasons of nomenclature as well as content. ) It certainly did sound good. If someone had old me then about gigantic gleaming turntables costing thousands of dollars back then I would have been shocked I suppose, although they existed, but wouldn't come into there own until the evolution of the compact disc, some centuries later. But did I digress. get yourself this exquisite jewel of audio engineering now!
  3. Very sad news regarding the passing of Patrick Miller of Sugden Audio. Condolences to his family & friends along with those who worked with him at Sugden. I understand from the website that Sugden will continue to be owned by the Miller family & all who work at the factory will still produce their incredible amplifiers. I never met him but from interviews I understand he was proud of the company & people he worked with.
  4. Further information: Sugden pure class A integrated. Comes with phono which easily competes to separates up to $1500. Most regard this version the best. If you like Hi-Fi fireworks and etchiness don’t waste your time. If you value tone, timbre and musicality, this is for you. Bought from Vinyl Revival this year. This is 30% off RRP $4695. Please don’t haggle or lowball. thanks Photos:
  5. The September 2012 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company. Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. This month we will have a complete system provided by Syntec International (refer to http://www.syntec.com.au). For over 35 years Syntec International has been the Australian and New Zealand distributor for some highly renowned and respected brands of audio equipment. Some of their brands include: Arcam, Bryston, Dynaudio, Lehmann, Manley, MIT, Neumann, Sennheiser and Tangent – to name a few. This month we will have a system comprising Dynaudio and Bryston. The electronics will be a Bryston combo of a 4B-SST power amp, BP26 pre-amp and CD player (please refer to http://www.syntec.com.au/home.php?cat=261). The 4B-SST is a pure dual mono design and offers 300 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 500 watts into 4 with over 1000 watts available in bridged mode. The speakers will be the Dynaudio C2 (please refer to http://www.dynaudio.com/int/home_loudspeaker_systems/confidence/confidence_c2.php). The C2 is a 1.5 meter tall floorstander. It has two Esotar tweeters and two mid/bass drivers with special Kapton voice coil formers that are perfectly integrated by the advanced crossover to yield a seamlessly balanced yet detailed sound and incredible sound staging. We will also have a Sugden Connoisseur BD-1 turntable, very recently refurbished by a club member. It’s definitely no Transrotor but it reportedly sounds pretty good. It has the Shure V15 Type 3 cartridge. The phono stage will be by Graham Slee. Sorry, no music server this month. For this meeting, both music sessions will be BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD and vinyl. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind. Members and Guests welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door. Venue: Epping Creative Centre Address: 26 Stanley St, Epping Doors open 1pm Meeting starts at 2pm Best regards, Tom Waters President Sydney Audio Club www.sydneyaudioclub.org.au tomwaters@sydneyaudioclub.org.au This post is for and on behalf of Tom and the Sydney Audio Club
  6. Further Information: Class A integrated amp. Used by my Dad before he upgraded, has been sitting in the box since. Great classic amp, in excellent cosmetic condition - selling as this was recently inherited, but I am happy with the Moon amp I am currently running. Happy to answer any Q's and can audition. Located In Melbourne, would very much prefer local pick up.
