  1. Further Information: I am selling my iconic Shindo Laboratory Western Electric 300b limited mono block amplifiers in immaculate condition. I really struggled with the idea of selling these, to the point that I would get them out of the system to photograph, have second thoughts and put them back. Unfortunately due to having to buy a house in this inflated market means that they have to go to a new owner to enjoy. There is plenty of information online, however my observations are that they are not your typical 300b as although they retain all of the 300b character, they are dynamic and hugely revealing when needed. Recent production Shindo WE300b Ltd amplifiers do not come up for sale in this condition very often, let alone in Australia and are now almost impossible to get as no longer produced. Dead quiet on my very sensitive horns. All original NOS tubes: W.E.300B (made in 1988) x 2, RCA 5R4 x 2, Western Electric 310a x 2, Millard CV 181 grey glass x 2. Included in the sale are additional NOS matching RCA 5R4 x 2, NOS WE310a x 2 and a pair of matched new production WE300b's. I have been using the new production 300b's and keeping the original WE300b's for special occasions. "It was 1979 that we produced a single ended power amplifier with 300B. Since then we made every effort to refine this original model. Advanced circuit and selected parts result in a natural presence and dynamic sound reproduction. We recommend using very efficient loudspeakers of more than 90dB and Max input lass than 50 watt." Effective output Power:8W in class A. Input Level controller is fitted. Input (Cannon Jack/ XLR) Unbalanced, Input Sensitivity/Impedance:1V/120KΩ. Total Harmonic Distortion:0.1%. Signal to Noise Ratio:110dB. Intermodulation Distortion:0.09%. Frequency response:20-30,000Hz ±3dB @ 1watt output. Power Consumption:80W. Power requirements:AC 117V or 220-230V 50/60Hz. 240v Dimensions:W 405×H 220×D 260mm. Weight:19.5Kg. Output Tube: W.E.300B (made in 1988) All the original packing, EU power cords and paperwork are included.
  2. Hi all In Canberra on the weekend of 26-27 January 2013 I plan to hold a vintage and modern speaker GTG. The aim of this GTG is to give people the opportunity to hear how well setup vintage speakers sound in comparison to some modern counterparts. The idea for this GTG came from conversations with a number of people who had never heard what vintage speakers sound like and also the recognition that some people's memories of vintage speakers may not reflect their true performance. The sound that some people remember about vintage speakers may be influenced by the turntables and electronics they were fed by. The event provides an opportunity for people to get together and hear some vintage speakers that they may not normally have the opportunity to hear. The event will allow back to back comparison against modern counterparts to identify what sort of differences there are between them, and what are the relative strengths and weaknesses of both. It might also help explain why some people persist in using vintage speakers. The focus will be on having fun and enjoying good music rather making the GTG an overly analytical exercise. The GTG should be both fun and informative. Some of the speakers initially identified to be included in the shootout are the Goodman's triaxioms, rare three way compression horn based Goodman's system, as well as Goodmans two ways and the possibility of some Altecs thrown in.. There will be a number of amps from Shindo, VAC, vintage Japanese 300B, miniwatt, etc that will be available for use, and should have a killerdac as well. LP playback and R2R might also be possible. The GTG will be held at my place which has a dedicated listening room (see thread http://killerdac.com/forum/index.php?topic=804.0). I may also set up a second system at the other end of the house. There will be social activities organised over the weekend including a barbeque or two and dinner. If you are interested in attending drop me a PM, if you have a speaker or amplifier that you would like to include in the shootout please provide me with the details. There will be limited space to doff on my floor. Cheers, Andy

  4. Further information: Purchased new from the Australian Distributor 240 Volt Version Comes with original packaging
  5. Further information: The speakers where sold like this in the early nineties by Auditorium 23 in Frankfurt. The horn is a Le Dauphine horn designed by famous Jean Hiraga and built by Norbert Gütte who is very well known in the German High end scene and is responsible for most cabinets that Keith Aschenbrenner offered at A23. The horns are made of double walled birch plywood and filled with sand. Very difficult to built, heavy, low resonant but more gentle sounding than metallic horns. The crossover is an Autoformer, designed by Ken Shindo who’s distributor Keith was in Germany. You have 12 different steps to adjust the level of the horn to your amplifier, your room and personal taste. The bass enclosure is made of birch plywood. Drivers are ALTEC Lansing 806 8A for the horn and a mighty 15” Alnico ALTEC LANSING in a ported enclosure for the bass(unfortunately I forgot to write down the type last time I opened the enclosure). Efficiency is at least 96 dB/watt/meter. The speakers are in good condition. They play very effortless and especially at low volume you can already enjoy the full range of any music you fancy. The previous and original owner was a classical music lover and used them with Shindo 300B amps and off course a Platine Verdier. He sold them because he thought with 79 years he needed to down size. When I saw them advertised in Germany I thought they should work extremely well with my Ongaku and shipped them over at great expense. Everybody in this process seems to hold the hands open and the government isn’t even the worst of all. Unfortunately, the speakers are way to efficient for my amp and my room. They would suit 300B, 2A3 and similar flea watt amps to really work the best. I will be sad when they go, I really like the sound and the design but The Ongaku pushes to much power and I never get it over the 10 o’clock position. I am happy to demonstrate from now, the plague is over. I do have some speakers in mind that I like but I would consider part exchanging things like SUT’s, 12 “ Tonearms, valve phono amps and cool cartridges. Regarding the price, don’t try, please. You get the speakers free of all costs to bring them here and for less of the price I paid and 30 years ago these speakers cost more than a middle class car in Germany. I received the speakers in wooden crates but they are gone. At agreed costs though they can be shipped interstate. I just checked today and think it’s reasonable.
