  1. The September 2014 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company. Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. For September, we will have a simple, innovative and great sounding system for you courtesy of Cameron Keating of distributor MAXMEDIA.. The system will be comprised of: Avantgarde Acoustic Zero 1 speakers: These are radically different speakers. They are digital processors, digital-to-analogue converters, power amps and speakers – all in one package. All you need is a source and you have a complete system. This quote from MAXMEDIA’s website provides an excellent overview of the Zero 1 … “This three-way active design stands just 104cm tall with each sleek-looking 32cm deep moulded enclosure housing modified versions of the company’s XA-series high-quality 50W amp – one for each of its two horns – plus a 400W Class D Hypex module driving a ported 30cm woofer. Source signals are fed to just one speaker, which then syncs wirelessly with the other. What’s more, the ZERO 1 is a Plug & Play system thanks to onboard 66-bit FPGA digital processing and six built-in 24-bit Burr-Brown DACs, meaning all you have to add is your source. Advanced digital filters allow calibration of the system’s output with great accuracy to ensure time, phase and amplitude coherence across the entire audible range. Clean-sounding and airy, the ZERO represents a compelling fusion of futuristic tech in a compact and user-friendly package.†Jonathan Valin’s extensive review of these speakers is in the current issue (Sept 2014) of The Absolute Sound. He quite loved them – it was a long review in which he raved about their speed, vitality, accuracy, timbre rightness and resolution. And he went so far as to say are likely the very first horn loaded speakers he’s heard that don’t sound like horns. Jonathan’s first impression (Feb 2014) of the Zero 1 can be read online here… http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/masterpieces-from-avantgarde-and-raidho/. 6 Moons also reviewed them back in December 2013, refer to http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/avantgarde6/1.html. Abbingdon Music Research (AMR) CD-777 CD player: The CD-777 is a stellar CD spinner and DAC that is quite capable of embarrassing more expensive gear. It has been widely reviewed, all with very positive outcomes. More detail on the CD-777 can be found at http://www.amr-audio.co.uk/html/cd777_individual.html. Links to reviews of the CD-777 can be found at http://www.amr-audio.co.uk/html/cd-777_reviews.html. We will also have an Oppo BDP-95 and monitor on hand solely for the purpose of playing content from flash drives. The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD or flash drives. Sorry, no vinyl or SACD this month. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind. Guests are always welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door. Venue: Epping Creative Centre Address: 26 Stanley St, Epping When: Sunday 14th September 2014 Doors open 1pm Meeting starts at 2pm Best regards, Tom Waters President Sydney Audio Club www.sydneyaudioclub.org.au tomwaters@sydneyaudioclub.org.au On behalf of Tom and the Sydney Audio club Inc.
