The August 2013 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company. Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. This month we will feature Lenard Audio (refer to http://lenardaudio.com/index.html). Lenard Audio is a design and consulting company specialising in electro-acoustic engineering. All Lenard Audio sound systems are designed as fully 4-way active systems for many audio applications including domestic, commercial, professional, studio monitoring and cinema. The key principal behind the design of all Lenard Audio products is to replicate the virtual reality of musical instruments; allowing the listener to experience the music as it was recorded. Lenard Audio was started by John Lenard Burnett during what may have been the most exciting time in Australian rock history, 1966 -1972. John is still very much active in the company today along with his daughter Nel. Detailed history of Lenard Audio can be found at http://www.lenardaudio.com/history.html. John also started the Lenard Audio Institute – more detail of that can be found at http://lenardaudio.com/education/. When you are there, mouse-over the “Subjects†link at the top left of the page to discover a wealth of information about many aspects of audio. We are fortunate to have both John and Nel as our guest presenters on the day. The marketing style of Lenard Audio has a strong focus on education and re-connecting with music. Consequently, the presentation part will be brief to allow more opportunity for listening and Q&A. The main speakers that will presented is the Sarabande (refer to http://lenardaudio.com/sarabande_standard.html). Sarabandes are large speakers that house five 100 watt solid state amplifiers and a 4-way active cross-over within each cabinet. A large aesthetically styled heat sink situated on the front of each cabinet holds the amplifiers. The sub bass is produced by two 12 inch speakers located within their own chamber in each cabinet. There is a large port at the bottom of the cabinet where the bass frequency emanates. The pre-amplifier will be the highly regarded new Classe CP-800. Front-ends will be the new Oppo BDP-105 and the club owned Sugden Connoisseur BD-1 turntable with a Shure V15 Type 3 cartridge. The phono stage will be the NAD PP 2i that was very favourably reviewed recently in Australian HiFi. The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD, SACD, flash drive or vinyl. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind. Members and guests welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door.
