  2. Further Information: RRP: $3,350 with the wireless sender. Less than a year old. Was hoping to keep a hold of this, but I'm a fool, and so here it is. Happy to personally drop this off anywhere in Melbourne, or pickup from Braeside or Mooroolbark. In excellent condition with original packaging and KEF wireless sender kit.
  3. Two pieces of dialogue for you, as heard last week between me and a friend, and taken a day apart. "Did you bring the B&W's?" "Yes. I can't understand how you can bear living with the KEFs when the tweeters are shot." "Well. I can't. I mean, the bass is great..." "With no tweeters you'd have to say that." "No, even way back when I was buying and auditioning it was what decided me. I went for the lovely warm full KEF bass sound." "You'll like the highs and midrange on the B&Ws, especially after having no tweeters. It'll be a shock. Anyway, sorry to dump and run, but gotta go..." "How'd they go?" "Well, the mids and highs are wonderful. I can hear triangles again! The definition of the B&Ws is great! But the bass is... " "Polite?" "Try 'non-existent'. But try this! It's U2's 'Numb'. Best song on the album." "Oooh, all sorts of nice things lurking quietly in the left channel. The bass is superb, too." "Yes. The difference between rock and pop is that rock has a sense of danger. The B&Ws on their own turned my rock music into pop. I needed the KEF bass. I had to have it." "That really does sound good." "Best of both worlds, once I hooked up the KEF's and the B&W's together. I can't hear any timing issues, nothing at all, I'm surprised! I just did it, and it's all come together like a dream."
  4. Hello everyone, I am new to Hi-Fi but am just assembling my first (entry-level) serious system. I just bought a Rotel RA-1520 integrated amplifier and now I am on the lookout for a set of bookshelf speakers that would be a good match. This is for a 10m x 3.6m x 3m quite dead (mostly carpeted) open-plan space. The lady of the house has dictated that floorstanders are not an option. Ultimately I would also be looking to add a subwoofer to the mix to adequately cover the bass. At the moment I am just using a Pro-ject DAC box for input which I will also upgrade down the track. I was thinking to spend $AUD1000-1500 but could stretch to $2000 if there is a significant and justifiable increase in quality. I know that the only way to pick speakers is by auditioning them which I plan to do shortly. However, it would be very helpful to have a list of vetted options on which to focus. There is an incredible number of different options out there. It would also be helpful to get an Australian perspective given the different pricing and availability here. So far I've only listened to the Polk LSiM703 which I thought were excellent. A lot of people talk about B&W being a good match for Rotel (685, CM1, CM5). From other forums, KEF (Q300, R300, R100, LS50), Dynaudio (Excite X12, DM 2/6, DM 2/7), ATC (SCM11) and PMC (DB1i, twenty .21/.22) have also been recommended, though the latter are a little out of my league. If anyone could share their experiences with the above or suggest any other options, it would be very much appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, Nick
  5. Well these just arrived Sunday! Here it is setup. (Cambridge Audio 651A + KEF Q300 Speakers + Cambridge Audio X300 watt Sub) Here is my last setup (I still have - Cambridge Audio 351R + MINX 325v2 5.1 Speakers but now they are in the bedroom setup with the projector - Good for late night movies!!!) Here is my first entry into the hifi world lol I love my Ultrasone Signature DJ's! I can take them anywhere!!! I've totally fell in love with the KEF Q300's and I had no plans to buying more speakers till I move into the new house but now I'm thinking of buying more of them and going 5.1. Maybe 2 more KEF Q300's and a center to go with the Cambridge audio x300 sub. Also thinking about buy the Cambridge Audio 751R. And when I move into the new house with a 7.2m x 4.8m room I can buy floor standing speakers for the FRL.
  6. As a fan of the originals, I'm quite excited about these. Looks as though they are trying to get some uniformity happening between the new Reference line (still no ETA for AU) and the LS50s. These resemble the Blue Ice White coloring which is available at an extra charge on the new Reference 3 and 5 models. http://www.kef.com/html/en/showroom/flagship_hi-fi_series/LS50/overview/ I should point out that these are yet to hit our shores, but word from my rep is they aren't far!
  7. Project Atmos I'm building a new house with a dedicated space for a Dolby Atmos Home Theater. I never thought my wife would let me! Dont tell her how much I've spent! My Wife and I have settled on a plan after god knows how many display homes and webpages. Its hard because of our land size of 512sqm is not that big compared to land that me and my friends grew up on on the edge of suburbia. I'm still waiting for the first draft of the house plans to come back and I know I need to amend things already. Like I haven't told them I need conduit throughout the walls for speaker wire LOL. And I'm yet to decide on the door type/style & position for entry. I also need to include an equipment closet, what do they look like? and where should I position it. I'm thinking I can pinch some space from the study next door to make a cupboard and run a vent fan into the ceiling cavity I guess. So if you want please feel free to help me through this journey and I will share all the info and photos as it comes along. I certainly need help. Like custom made subs I don't have a clue about and maybe there is something that I am missing that is obvious to you but not to me. I would really appreciate it. Thanks lads Room Size 5.7 Long x 4.5m Wide x 2.55m High Rough Sketchup The plan - 26th Feb 2016 Speakers: I already have a few KEF Q Series speakers for the ground level for the 7.#.# out of the 7.1.4. I just ordered two in ceiling Ci200RR-THX speakers from the states and I will buy another couple in a few days to try and avoid the import tax etc. Front L/R - Floor Standing Kef Q900 Surround L/R - Floor Standing Kef Q900 Surround Back - Kef Q300 Centre - Kef Q600c Atmos Ceiling - 2x Kef Ci200RR-THX - Will buy another 2 to make 4 total Subs I have one SVS PC13-Ultra and I love it. But I had a lad suggest to me maybe I should go custom and make 4 of my own custom 18" sub-woofers. Ive never done this before and I dont know what it would sound like but I am excited to hear and feel what that would be like. or I can go another/2nd SVS PC13 Ultra but it will cost another $2,999. So potentially I can sell the PC13U that I own and fund a better system but I will have to make it myself and I have never done this before, but I am very handy and could pull it off, or not lol. Screen & PJ Projector - Epson tw9200 Screen - 120" 16:9 In the Equipment closet AVR - Denon x7200 (Need to buy still) AMP - Rotel 1585 5 x 200w Blu Ray - Oppo 103D Satelite TV - Foxtel Game console of choice - PS4 PC - 5960x + 2x GTX Titan X Building Materials & Stuff So far its Rocakwall insulation and Soundcheck plaster and some special glue with 90mm noggins. Things I need help with: 1. Design for a component closet. What should it look like? where should it be positioned, what sort of fan system should it have, if any? etc 2. Custom made 18" subs - Where do I start I dont know. Do you know what would suit my room? Is there anyone near Geelong wanting to help me make them or be appart of the process in some way. What materials should I use and buy from where? 3. Is the Denon x7200 the best suited AVR for my 7.1.4 Atmos setup? 4. Should I do anything extra to the room? 5. I need to sort out position of the subs and what the center speaker will be sitting on. 5. Am I missing something? Thanks lads!! UPDATES: 25th Feb 2016 - House plan locked in. First drafts getting done will be ready for 29th Feb. 26th Feb 2016 - Investigating into Fire Hoods and backing housings for in-ceiling speakers and if they are not installed with the in ceiling speaker to they void my houses fire insurance? Looking into making my own subs!!! I am quite handy and don't mind giving it a crack just got to see if it will be an improvement over buying a 2nd SVS PC13Ultra. I'm guessing 2 or even 4 18" subs would be ridiculous but I want them to work 100 percent. I don't want to be fiddling with them all the time etc. Also got to work out how I incorporate a equipment rack into my design and what I need to do to make it actually effective and not do a dodgy mashed up job of it. So I have my home work cut out for me before the 29th Feb. 27th Feb 2016 - Sold a Cambridge Audio CXA80 integrated amp, Kef LS50's and a Cambridge Audio Minx X500 Sub to help fund the atmos project.
  8. I’ve been powering some KEF LS50s with a hybrid integrated amp for a year or so now and have been generally happy with the combination. Unfortunately the amp passed away recently so I’m looking for a replacement. I’ve been using a vintage Hitachi (20 WPC) to keep the music flowing while I find a replacement and have been surprised at how the KEFs have enjoyed the vintage sound. This started me looking at something like a refurbished Sansui 717 which I haven’t ruled out (thanks for your help @pete_mac). At the other end of the spectrum I’ve always been interested in the Wyred 4 Sounds STI-500. While I’ve been uncertain about the Class D thing generally, admittedly without any experience or technical understanding, I like almost everything I’ve read on how the amp apparently performs. One concern is that the combination may be too revealing. The other is the KEFs are low efficiency (85 dB) with minimum impedance of 3.2 ohms so seem to prefer amplication with a decent amount of current - I don't really understand where Class D fits in terms of power (current) vs power (output). Here are a couple of review links: http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue48/wyred.htm http://www.stereotimes.com/amp020910.shtml http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/wyred3/sti.html Does anyone have any experience with W4S integrated amps (or other comparable Class D amps) they can share. If anyone in the Gold Coast / Brisbane / F North NSW area has one I could listen to that would be even better. All opinions / recommendations welcome. I listen to 60 / 40 split of flac files and vinyl. Digital via SBT (Teddy PSU) > Synchromesh > Teddydac. I’d be looking at a new phono stage < $1,000 so options open here. Room is 7 x 8 m open living and I listen at low - moderate volumes. Thanks Adam
  9. KEF LS50 Wireless II for sale. I bought them new at full price. All look and function like new; deal includes original remote, accessories, packaging. And the original purchase receipt.
  10. SINGLE KEF LS50 Meta Speaker in carbon black. Speaker is brand new and has never been taken out of its protective cover. Surplus as I needed 3 for my LCR setup in the living room and had to buy two pairs – one too many. So a great grab for someone planning to do a similar setup. Purchased from AudioConnection here in Sydney. Happy to provide a copy of the receipt to buyer. Pictures of box and still wrapped up speaker and manual below, plus stock image from the internet for those that do not know what they look like undressed … Love the speakers and very happy with the current configuration and sound. They absolutely need a subwoofer or two (in my opinion) though. Many a great write-up and review about these speakers online, I put a few links below, and Google is your friend if you need more. Happy to post if no local interest after a little while, add one hundred dollars for postage, insurance and packing (will cut down original packing foam to suit single speaker and put in strong suitable box). 12. Item: KEF R300 standmount speakers (gloss black) Location: Clayton, Melbourne Price: $1300 pickup or buyer pays postage (RRP $2300 AUD) - SOLD Item Condition: Mint Reason for selling: Funding other purchases Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: The R300 is the larger of the two standmounters in the KEF R range and is a true 3-way speaker. Yes, you read that right - not 2.5 or "quasi 3-way", but a real 3-way crossover - in a standmount speaker. The "Uni-Q" driver array houses the mid and tweeter, while the 6.5" aluminium bass driver puts out lower frequencies which really need to be heard to be believed. These are not small speakers (in standmount terms), and the bass they produce can be extremely powerful if called upon. The mids are very smooth (if a little warm), and the treble is ever so slightly rolled off (noticeable when compared to the LS50's). These would be perfect speakers for someone who likes to play their hifi loud but also has recordings of mixed quality (which let's be honest, is most of us). Not to mention they look incredibly sexy in gloss black with the silver aluminium trim. Build quality is astounding - they really do look impressive atop the stands The speakers are in perfect condition and will come in the original boxes with all accessories. Shipping within Australia won't be a problem. More info: http://www.kef.com/h...r300/index.html Pics:
  13. Item: KEF Carina II loudspeakers Location: outer south-western Sydney Price: $170 Item Condition: Very Good cosmetic ondition and perfect working condition Reason for selling: Surplus to requirements Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only - no shipping due to size Extra Info: These lovely KEF Carina IIs have been gathering dust for far too long, and deserve to be used by someone who will appreciate them. The full KEF specification blurb is available here: http://www.kef.com/uploads/files/en/museum_pdf/80s/Carina_II.pdf The basic specs are: Twin 8" woofers and 1" dome tweeter, 89db sensitivity, 8 ohms nominal impedance, 600mm x 300mm x 250mm The speakers are in very good condition with minor marks here and there, and some minor separation of the veneer on the left hand side lower edge where the vinyl veneer joins together. This cannot be seen from the top and is therefore unnoticeable when the speakers are in use. One of the grilles has a few marks and tears as can be seen in the photos. There are some scratches on the bottom veneer, and a few light scratches on the top of one speaker. Overall, these present very well and will complement a vintage (or modern!) system nicely. The photos tell the story (apologies for the crappy iphone photos... our normal camera has gone walkabout). They are quite easy to drive and are 89db sensitivity, and they sound very decent indeed. In fact, I forgot how good they sound until I connected them up to my main system earlier today. Very clean, tight bass given the sealed enclosure, and great imaging and overall sound quality. Quite impressive at this price point IMHO. Sorry, pick-up only from Ingleburn (outer south-western Sydney). Alternatively, there is the possibly of collection from Guildford, near Parramatta, by prior arrangement on weekends. Pictures:

Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: This is item is about 9.5 years old and would suit a new buyer looking for an entry level HT system. This item comes a 5 satellites speaker system and a subwoofer. Price is negotiable, I can't take any pictures as i'm currently in Melb for work and will be back in Syd next weekend so feel free to drop in to view/demo the item. 18. Further information: I thought I could house this subwoofer on my ex-fireplace plinth but it looks like the fireplace can be resurrected. Damn. That means no safe place on the floor for the KC62 with two 'big foot' teenagers lurking around. As mentioned, this is unused/unopened - it looks like this sub is out of stock/low on stock through retailers. I collected my unit from Melbourne Hifi early December 2021.
