  1. I've replaced belts and idler tyre on a SONY Tck61 but the design of the tyre means it is not sitting right. Is it possible (in general) to be able to remove the spindle caps and access the Idler assembly? Don't want to have to remove the whole mech again ......I'm teaching myself as I go.
  2. Picked up a battered but working, Pioneer Ct-F7171 Cassette Deck off Gumtree as I am going for the wood trim look. Turns out it doesnt work, I took the bottom cover off and saw that the main belt was snapped. I ordered a belt and tyre kit from the US and it arrived yesterday with very clear instructions on how to replace all the belts and tyres. It was a fairly time consuming job but I managed to get it done. After the install it still doesnt work properly. Looks like the main belt doesnt have enough tension or something. The tape plays but the it gets chewed up.at the heads, Fast forward works slowly and then not at all, rewind just doesnt happen. I downloaded the service manual and will have a go at adjusting it all. It seems that the new tyres are a bit larger in diameter than the old ones. One of the tyres broke on removal so I cant reuse it. Anyone have any ideas why it would be sluggish after new belts etc? Just venting my frustration, thinking about ditching it and getting one that actually works.
