  1. I have a set of M&K speakers with Satin Black Lacquer that has some harsh rub marks from appearance on a few of the cabinets - not deep scratches but almost like a solvent or scrubber was used. Who in Brisbane is expert at the type of work to restore a $20k set of speaker cabinets? This may be cut/polish the lacquer, respray in lacquer or other paint, Vinyl Wrap... other option? (Large radius roundover on all vertices = No laminate or rigid panel solution). I have had some inter-state projects that have gone side-ways and it's a total PITA trying to correct when you cannot deal in person at times - so I want to use local resources. I'm interested in a few options yet unsure of what is safe as a long term solution for a speaker cabinet: 1. Full cut and polish - the lower cost option and perhaps just fine for now. Who would be suitable for this? 2. Vinyl wrap - I think this would look beautiful as long as the seam is only on the bottom.... but heat stretched vinyl and speaker cabinets/lacquer? I'm unsure of compatibility here. 3. Respray? I searched for past discussion and found some artisan establishments can do very creative work. I'm unsure where to start in Brisbane. I don't know the price range I would be looking at if I wanted 3 standmounts done in a satin or matte colour and I don't trust this type of job to the average spray shop. As anyone who works with paints or polished surfaces will know - you cannot polish a satin or matte surface without introducing gloss. I need to examine restoration pathways and help would be very kindly received I'm an airbrush artist and work with automotive paints... flat sanding and polishing 2k clears etc. The M&K Lacquer is fragile I don't want to do more than the hand polishing I've already done to see if the damage was purely surface. I do not want to take on this task and would prefer an experienced expert. Unlike artwork I can't hide blemishes! The full set would require doing and result in a full gloss finish. Perhaps not my ideal outcome if other pathways are open.
  2. Hi all...... Been lurking for a while and thought I should sign up to join in on some of the chats. My vinyl journey so far has been relatively brief but here it is..... - parents had a secondhand store growing up and got into collecting records of classic rock from what I could scavenge from the shop - had various old school TTs from the age of probably 12/13 through to leaving home. Didn't know enough about it then to even care what types...lol - have had a rega planar 2 for the last 5/6 years with the grace 707 arm with a AT440LMa cart - playing through a basic sherwood stereo amp with built in phono stage Anyway, just about to throw a bit of cash my setup for a new deck, cart and phono stage. To be honest my setup has sounded good to my ears, though far from audiophile of course. And through the last 5 years or so I've had a few parties centred around the TT and its been handled by some people who probably weren't physically capable at the time if you catch my drift. I'm fairly sure the cart and/or stylus has seen better days. I listen to classic rock, blues, hard rock, progressive metal through to heavy metal and sometimes hip hop...lol. Basically over the years I've tried to glean some sort of satisfaction from any and all styles of music, often opening up my mind in the process. Anyway, I'm sure that's enough of a novel for now......hopefully chat you all soon.
