  1. On back of masters of the air, checked out Memphis Belle on blu-ray this afternoon this is an old release from back in 2014 ! and the original movie from 1990 (i remember catching and much enjoying this on VHS back in day ! ) so a movie thats about 34 years old ! to watch it, its plain amazing what they achieved, they had 5 real B17 that reduced down to 4 when one was destroyed during filming. Beautifully with way characters are formed and how non stop it is with the aerial action, drama a plenty ! audio on this comes up very well with DTS Neural -X doing a wonderfull job with quite a good surround mix. Shot originally on 35mm and could do with a restoration, and grain a plenty. took a few screen shots so can see what looks like ... screen shots do accentuate the grain, and better with own eyes but it is what it is and still an excellent watch !
  2. The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert on blu-ray. Didnt realise this movie was 20 years old... somehow not ever seen it and wife saying she had already seen it meant we had been giving it a miss for years.. with daughter wanting to watch ...finally got around to it... quite a laugh...quite crass in bits but its funny because of it...loved all the music... every bit of it ...suprised with the picture quality for a 20 year old movie.. came up really nicely see a few screen shots below... the versatility of actors like hugo weaving, Guy Pearce and Terence Stamp to pull this off is amazing ! surely a classic of australian cinema ...

  4. Train to Busan on Blu-ray if looking for a zombie apocalypse movie, am not sure have come across a better one... and this one is 100 miles an hour... ,keeps you on edge the entire time ! nail biting even Korean language with english subtitles... and you want the us release not the trilogy which is what i got by mistake initially... the us release has a fantastic enveloping and very dynamic DTS-X sound track and the picture quality is amazing really for what is blu-ray - watched this on the jvc n7 projector and it was plain stunning....some screen shots below as a taste.. viewing in person it is just even more impressive !
  5. Quiet little movie, Land on blu-ray Beautifully shot, this is a story of someone in greif and wanting to escape people and outside world. Asks to be left at a log cabin in the rockies. Its about the rugged nature of things, surviving the seasons. this is a film where we aren't talking 4k uhd and HDR and wider colour gamut, sharpness or detail and multi channel lossless atmos and all that and yet is touching and lovely to look and with many lovely scenes. Watched this via the JVC n7 projector and below some screen shots of some of the lovely scenes,
  6. checked out NomadLand on blu-ray nice follow up to Land ... some beautiful scenery.... and plenty of very touching scenes...10 min in..its got you... France McDormand is amazing. Its very mater of fact ! I was hit right from the start where it starts out telling of a town Empire where US gypsum shut its plant and it wiped out that post code...a great sharing of nomadic lifestyle and even features some real nomads playing themselves. Its amazing how touching a movie can be in its simplicity and rawness and all the ways right to the very end. Some beautiful scenery all the way through, some screen shots below watching with JVC N7 projector...
  7. An absolute treasure of a movie, seen three times.. first when came out on DVD then on blu-ray and then again with the later release blu-ray which daughter wanted to watch which we did via jvc n7 projector. Amazing movie... so touching, pulls VERY hard at the heart strings ! great story. the picture is almost inconsequential but is glorious(few screen shots below) and so is the audio..beautiful sound track from lisa gerrard. The little girl in lead was her first time acting and the youngest nomination in history from the academy for an oscar and while she didnt get an oscar the movie won a lot of awards. https://southpacificpictures.com/productions/details/337/Whale-Rider I rate it one box of tissues between the family
  8. Hi Everyone I once had a thought when the Van Halen album hit it's 30 year anniversary (yes, it's been that long) I'd try to contact Eddie and suggest that instead of remastering the album like every man and his dog seems to do, is to go in and re-record the album with today's technology and in 24/192. I would shoot out and buy that in a heartbeat. I know the costs would prohibit such a thing, but I thought it was a nice idea. In Hi-Fi, very few things are perfect, but unbelievably, one thing is. The Blu-Ray audio track of movies. It's a bit for bit identical recording that the studio has. So now my thoughts turn to the possibility that it can't be that hard to make an Audio Blu-ray Player just as you would have a CD player. Studios would now be able to put the actual recording on the Blu-Ray, totally uncompressed and untouched apart from leveling out instruments. I'm not talking about the concerts you can buy on Blu-Ray, although that's proof of how fantastic music on Blu-Ray can sound. I'm talking about normal studio audio music. Now I know that the studios compress the music so it will play louder on the radio, but nothing is to stop them doing that and still leaving the uncompressed album as it is. I know this will never happen, but I can keep dreaming.
