Hello everyone, Currently I am on the lookout for a pair of Quad ESL 57 monitors in good condition. The purchase will eat up most of my budget. Unfortunately, these speakers seem to pose quite a challenge for an amplifier. My amplifier budget is 250$ max, and I am investigating my best option. The amp should not have too much power, otherwise it could cause arcing in the panels. 50 watt per channel or under should be fine. It should be happy to drive a reactive load. My save bet would be a Quad 303. I can find one in good condition within my budget. I can be certain that they will work well with the ESL 57. However, I've read that they are nothing special, and that modern amps easily surpass them. I should mention that I am not looking for a 'character' amp or anything. I am looking for low distortion, and something that does not introduce a sound of its own. It should drive the ESL safely to reasonable sound levels (95db would be more than enough for me) without causing arcing or taking damage, and with as little distortion as possible. I've compiled quite a list of interesting amps. Does anybody have experience with any of them driving Quad ESL 57s? Would any of them be a better choice than a Quad 303? Extra Info: Classic Jacob Jensen design featuring record player (33 & 45) plus radio AM/FM (needs appropriate antennas) and at rear there's one Tape input (use supplied 5-pin DIN adaptor) which could be used for other sources such as CD or iPod, or a streaming device like Sonos. The turntable has a functioning cartridge MMC20s with stylus, which most secondhand B&O turntables you see for sale no longer have intact, and replacements cost about $150 or more, so there's half your value right there. The ones advertised at cheaper prices are usually lacking the stylus. Just needs a suitable pair of speakers to make a charming retro setup. Will come with a pair of basic DIN speaker leads and original antenna. Condition: very good, a few marks, scratch on the OFF button which also sticks in "off" position and needs a fingernail to pop it back out, - but it's not too hard to do. Item: ASPEN NAKSA 80 Location: Canberra Price: $500 Posted AUS wide ($450 pick up) Item Condition: 8/10 (minor scratches on the chassis) Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup or post - Cash, Paypal Extra Info: A good friend has given me the opportunity to buy a Sansui AU-707i which at 130W works much better with my Schiit Saga PRE (unity gain) and my speakers. Although this amplifier has a beautiful sweet tube like sound with decent bass, I've found that at 80W (NAKSA 80) my 85db speakers cannot get loud enough with my vinyl set up. This is likely due to the unity gain of my PRE. My digital sources don't exhibit the same issues and sound very sweet with this amplifier. The amplifier has been modified at some point by someone and I was not made aware of this when I purchased the amp. The work is serviceable however and has not caused any problems with day to day operation. I have bypassed the two front pots myself so this is now a power amplifier. I can reattach the pots if nessecary. Physically the amp is in pretty good condition and only has a few slight scratches on the chassis. Pictures:

Copper screws say a lot about the amp quality. It is built as a tank. Sansui AU-α607MR was sold in Japan only. It is need 100V power supply. Comes with a high quality isolated 500W small size step down transformer. \ No remote control. I believe that a buyer will not be disappointed. The sound is so clear that you can hear a musician breath. But what is most impress me is a high frequency bell sound. I have never heard in my live so nice bell sound. I have had a lot of amps including many Sansui amps but only this one can do that. It is just smoothly slow disappearing in air. Amazing! How Sansui could do that? My Luxman makes bells well too, but I prefer Sansui bells. Sansui bells sounding like inside a church whereas Luxman is outside one. The tone controls are in another league to most implementations I've heard. I never hear any degradation when I do use them. The side wood panels can be purchased in dark brown and black from Yamaha for $100 btw I do have the manuals but no box.
