  1. Hi, It appears that firmware updates are being released for Onkyo receivers with the Tidal mqa issue. Hopefully, it won't be long before Pioneer releases their updates. Please see below from Onkyo website. Notice of Firmware Update for TX-8390 A firmware update for the TX-8390 network stereo receiver is available through the unit’s network connection or USB input. Please note that new firmware updates replace, and include all content from, previous updates. The latest update includes the following content: Latest Firmware Number (16 digits):R120-0611-0120-0030 As of 14 October 2021 Chromecast built-in version update to 1.52. Fix the playback format issue converted as AAC format while playing TIDAL's FLAC audio format. Fix the MQA no playback issue on TIDAL. Fix the no display issue of Center Channel crossover setting on the Setup menu.
  2. Further information: For sale my collection of SACDs. Ideal for someone getting into Hi Res music at it's best. A cross selection of genres that will appeal to any music lover, so I am not interested in separating and selling the discs individually. All discs are in excellent condition, except for 3 with minor cosmetic scratches that do not affect playback. 2 of the jewel cases are with cracks (Please refer to images - Mark Knopler's Shangri La & Sting's Sacred Love ).2 SACDs (Diana Krall's When I Look In Your Eyes & Al Jarreau's All I Got) do not have the CD layer & will not play on a standard CD player. 4. Hi Eric & Alex, No solution as yet for Tidal mqa. My n70ae definitely fully unfolds mqa from usb. Please see attached pic. The direct blue led also lights when playing mqa files. I have seen quite a few posts from Pioneer & Onkyo users who have the same problem. Interesting post here from user posted in reddit. ""Yes, it solves the AAC problem, but not the MQA problem as the network player plays the MQA encoded files as ordinary flacs. I have found an interesting info at the website of one of the large hi-fi dealers in Moscow, Russia. On their website`s blog on May 4th they write the following: "Since May Tidal has suddenly changed the method of MQA data detection for all the network hi-fi equipement. Simply speaking, before May the MQA audio files at Tidal stream contained special tags that "were telling" to the hardware player about MQA data contained in those files. But now Tidal decided to get rid of MQA tags provided that each network hi-fi device with Tidal embedded client should have itself to "inspect" each audio file it receives from Tidal to find the MQA data. If the player detects such a data it will play the MQA file and if it does not detect MQA data, you wil hear the simple 48kHz Flac, but not MQA. Hovever this will not affect the MQA files played from the external sources, such as HDD, NAS or music servers. Therefore it is clear that to solve the MQA problem created by Tidal, the hardware manufacturers will have to release the compleyely new firmware versions.""" No help from Tidal. Their support simply asked me to contact Pioneer support. Guess we'll have to wait for firmware update from Pioneer.

  6. The Node is a great player punching well above its weight. The Pioneer is better sounding, a little more precise and natural sounding and has that extra something that the Node lacks. It's definitely an upgrade, but not sure if it can be described as big IMO. The Node's interface is great, but the same cannot be said about the Pioneer's remote app. It definitely needs an overhaul, and in my opinion is the weakest part of such a great streamer. I have never used the Node through an external DAC, so can't comment on that aspect. The Node is a great player punching well above its weight. 7. Thanks. I will always be candid as I don't want to mislead anyone. Anyway your suggestion of using Mconnect seems to work. I can see the hi res flac files now & sounds great too. I haven't been able to open up the system as the family's home now. I'll test this further tomorrow and then decide if I want to sell or not. Many thanks for the advice.
  8. Highly rated streamer, the Pioneer N70ae streamer has amazing sound quality through the 32 bit Sabre ES9016S DACS and is capable of streaming and playing any Hi Res format. Built in support is available for Tidal, Deezer, Spotify, TuneIn internet radio. There’s also AirPlay, as well as DLNA playback of music on your network via laptop or NAS drive. Recently purchased from a SNA member. I first connected the streamer through XLR cables to my Rotel RC1590 preamp (powering ML 532H through Focal Electra BE1038s) and was amazed at the clarity of music, specially the DSD files and MQA files. However, I was disappointed that the most recent upgrade to Tidal streaming has not been fixed yet by a firmware upgrade. Tidal has changed its streaming setup where MQA tags have been deleted and the player only plays back the FLAC version @ 44.1khz, 16 bit resolution. I tried Deezer Hi fi and the clarity of the music was again simply amazing. I next connected my Bluesound Node 2i through the Pioneer as the DAC and this took the music to an almost different level (no issues with the mqa files this way, as the player does the unfolding of the files without fuss). Ideal for someone who does not listen to Tidal MQA (the only issue I can see in the player). Otherwise a very capable, and going by the weight, solidly built streamer. Can be controlled via the Pioneer Remote App (available for both Android and Apple). There's Airplay, Chromecast built in and FireConnect if you need to use any of these. RRP $2999, but I have seen the model available for $2400, still a very good bargain for half the RRP. Price is firm. I would have loved to hang on to this, but given that Sharp Corporation has bought Onkyo/Pioneer recently, do not know if a firmware upgrade for the Tidal MQA issue is coming anytime soon. For the timebeing, I will continue to listen to the Bluesound Node via the Rotel preamp. (I am sorely tempted to upgrade to the Rotel RC1590mkII which has been released this year and is capable of full MQA unfolding). With the current restrictions on I cannot demo, but in case restrictions are lifted, will be happy to demo for anyone willing to travel to VIC SE. Comes with all original accessories and cables and in original packaging. I prefer to send via PackandSend for an agreed fee. The package is very heavy, so would prefer to use PackandSends insurance as well. Cost me $53 to get the package from NSW to my place a couple of weeks ago. 9. My Pioneer n70ae does not show the mqa file resolution when playing Tidal mqa files. It shows AAC 96kbps 44.1 kHz/16 bit. The player has the latest firmware and also plays mqa files off the USB input, so I don't understand what is going on. My Tidal subs is TIDAL HiFi Plus with Master Sound Quality. I also have the Bluesound Node 2i which does mqa perfectly. Has anyone encountered this problem or is able to explain if there is a fix for this?
  10. Tempting. Just wondering if it is worth the extra $$$ over the Bluesound Node 2i I currently use for Tidal MQA?
  11. I have the same model and can vouch for the sound quality. 55 kgs I believe is the weight - a real backbreaker. Good price too. Won't be too long before someone grabs this. GLWTS.
  12. Wanted: Pair of Focal Aria 948 speakers in Melbourne, VIC.
