  1. Before buying the Kompakt I had a Klein II. Before that an Arcam irDAC ii. The noticeable difference going from the Arcam to the Klein was immediate. The Arcam was good but the Klein was on a different level. I can’t really use audiophile terms with any conviction and the totality of my setup probably costs less than some peoples speaker cables but there was just a new depth and warmth. Sound was a warm blanket. The Kompakt has taken it up a level. It’s just as warm as the Klein but has so much more life. It’s taken a bit of getting used to as the Klein was just so good and also
  2. Item: Bluesound Node 2i black Price Range: $600 Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: I’m after a black Node 2i in good condition. Please don't forget to report your post as FOUND when possible. (You can now delete this text).
  3. Well this is a good DAC. I'd love to compare it to a Denafrips Ares II or Topping D90 but not really got the will or the cash to go down that path. As I said, it's better than the DAC on my streamer but then it did cost 20 times more. I suspect it's a DAC that really shines with high end equipment. My set up is middling (Bryston B60r and PMC DB1i) but still I can hear definite sonic benefits from the Gieseler over my streamer DAC. I've not heard any of the equipment you've got so can't really comment on whether it would be what you're looking for. It also depends if you
  4. Yup. Have both my cd player and also Raspberry Pi streamer running through it. It definitely improves the sound from the cd player. Also better than the DAC hat on the Pi but the improvement is subtle. More depth and resonance, less sharpness. More comfortable? An easier listen.

  6. I'm using the USB out from the Pi to my DAC. It a pi 4 so the usb output is good and my DAC (Gieseler Kompkt) works best with USB input. I did try a HifiBerry Digi +for comparison but to be honest the USB output from the Pi sounded better. I do believe there were issues with the Pi 3 USB audio output but they have been solved with the Pi 4. Something to do with the USB and Ethernet outputs sharing the same channel I think. So the Hifiberry Digi + HAT is now sitting in a drawer waiting for another project. I have a HifiBerry DAC + HAT on my Pi 3 that I'm using as a bluetooth/airplay
  7. The Pi setup was pretty straightforward and works really well. There is a learning curve but not too steep. I chose Volumio as the OS and it does exactly what I need. It's not as smooth or pretty as the BluOS on my Bluesound Node (since sold) but just as functional. My only gripe is if you don't want to use the Volumio web interface (which has issues) you need to buy the app. Still, pretty good. It sounds every bit as good as the Node but then I am using an external DAC so that's to be expected. I also set up a second Pi system as a Bluetooth receiver for my sons old hifi and he's

  9. I've found the Bluos software laggy over the last few weeks. Operations that were immediate are now taking forever both with Tidal and Spotify and there are also various other little irritations. This has been a constant issue on both IOS MacOS. Can't comment on Windows. Funnily enough all fine with files on a connected usb drive. I initially thought it was our permanently rubbish internet but other wifi dependent software seems to be operating as usual. Also no issues using the Tidal or Spotify apps and connecting to the node (2) through them. It seems that something is possibly
  10. Nice set up. I had one of the lower level CA amps and it had a good sound. Also love the Dali Ikons.
  11. I looked into this - I think I read about it as an option on John Darkos site. I can't remember why but I decided against it. Possibly it looked more suited to a bigger set up than mine. Are you using to with just amp/speakers etc? or is it part of a bigger set up. The Toslink out is good though. Several other alternatives such as the Yamaha ones miss this. Anyway, decided to go down the Raspberry Pi route. I picked up a cheap Pi 4 off ebay and also one of these with a case off Ali Express. It'll be fun to see how it all comes together as and when it all turns up. All in all a
  12. Ah - just seen the post from a couple of weeks ago looking for similar. Seems I'm more out of touch with current prices than I thought. Shouldn't have sold mine when I got the Bluesound. Could be time to dip my toes in the world of Raspberry Pie. Anyone else done this?
  13. Item: Chromecast Audio or easy to use/assemble alternative Price Range: $75 and up Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: Needed for a second system. I’m willing to pay a reasonable price ($75 is an opening estimate) as opposed to the mad prices on eBay etc.. Also I’d be interested in an alternative such as one of the Raspberry Pie builds
  14. A Chromecast Audio when they first came out. Brilliant functionality for very little money.
