  1. I picked up the Sammy 850 only 1 month ago and I'm sure they have more in stock from Mt Ommaney Retravision if you are in Brisbane. Best price I got was $190. Comes with HDMI cable so is a bargain since you don't have to fork out extra $60 for the cable. Extremely happy with the build finish and picture quality. I also have spent time looking at wall mount arms. I think you answered your own question when you said you wouldn't trust some brands with your TV. You get what you pay for. Have put off buying a Vogels arm mount at this stage as just happy with TV on unit. Have a look at the "skunkworks" website, aussie made brackets, certainly stong enough, big range and cheap, BUT bloody ugly compared to Vogels. Vogels have much superior finish and look fantastic. I know its behind a TV but if you get the arm mounts it will be seen if pulled out from the wall, however with flush mounts it doesn't really matter. Good Luck
  2. Everything as the USA samsung website suggests, however as Roxtan said you should try the sony code 008. The website also suggests if this doesn't work try all codes they have listed for DVD players (000,001,002 etc to 009 I think from memory). Hope it works!
  3. Thanks to those who have suggested different codes for programming the R71 series remote. Just to add further confusion I programmed the remote to control my sammy 850 DVD player just by pressing the remotes "DVD" button and then holding down the power on/off button while aiming it at the DVD player whilst it was already on. Within three secs the DVD player turned off so my TV remote now controlled the DVD player. Perhaps this only happened because the code for a samsung device is 000 so no code needed to be entered. But I also thought that maybe if you tried the same technique but just held down the remotes power on/off button while pointing at the device you want to control that it may automatically scroll through all the codes and you just wait until something happens on the device you want to control. Remember however you have to press "dvd" on the remote so it knows it is about to control a dvd player. I don't have a vcr or settop box to try this on so I am only postulating it may work. Don't hold your breath at the same time though.
  4. Can anyone help another fellow owner of the 32" R71 in programming the learning remote control. I have a Samsung 850 DVD player which the R 71 TV remote learnt to control OK. I suggested the method I used to do this to another owner and it didnt work for his sharp/toshiba gear. Xluke I think you programmed the remote as well. What gear are you controlling with it and how did you do it. Any other owners of the R series have advice? PS: Still lovin the new TV. Have watched more DVDs in the last 1 month than the last whole year. Cheers in advance.
  5. I have had the 32 R sammy for 1 week now, and the blue strip is just coloured plastic, not a light at all. Today just purchased a Samsung HD850 DVD player and hooked it up with the supplied HDMI cable. Very happy with the picture using an older DVD. Can't wait to try it with Sin City. Chose the 850 over the 860 as it looks fantastic with a brushed stainless fasia that looks expensive. Picked it up for $190 which is a bargin since it comes with HDMI cable and has progressive scan/upscaling features. Another great feature of this LCD is the remote can control other devices such as a DVD player/STB/VCR. In other words one remote can do all the basic functions you need. Combine this with a built in HD tuner this unit is truly fantastic and excellent value at $2020. Lovin it
  6. Tony, I looked at a lot of 32" Lcds at various stores and found a huge difference in their setups. Myer chermside had a hopeless LCD setup where all the pictures looked bad compared to the plasmas. I felt I would never buy an LCD as a result. Looked at JB at Indooroopilly and found a huge difference, as most pictures were clear and not pixellated. Asked what they ran them on and was told an LG HD box but everything (LCD/plasma) were running on same setup (component) so a true picture comparison could be made. I reckon this is the only way a truely informed decision can be made. I chose the sammy 32 R series and have found the internal box to be fantastic. I have set it up to a suggestion in this thread at www.bob.com to reduce the contrast levels in case I burn it out. I dont really know if this is an issue but I dont want the risk. Anyway just try and find a store that has a good setup with a true like for like comparison and not one where the shop has unfair comparisons. I asked JB to show me the sammy picture using the internal box while comparing it to all the other LCDs near it. I also asked just to watch a normal HD tv channel and not the CH7 loop. Easier to compare I reckon. It still looked fantastic so I was sold. In fact my partner said she would never want a LCD because of the pixellated picture but changed her mind once I took her to a store with a good setup. Hope this helps Cheers
  7. After waiting for a couple of years to purchase I finally bit the bullet and bought the new Samsung 32" R71 LCD. Went to Myer as was the last day of their sale. Ran in to a bit of trouble at the Indooroopilly store as they reckon the 10% off plasma sale only included particular models and certainly not new models. Pissed off, I then went to JB at Indooroopilly and said "Myer would do the R71 for $2499 less 10% for their sale and less a further 10% for joining Myer Source Card making final price $2025". The guy just said good luck and buy it at Myer as it is below their cost price and he was not interested. Frustrated I called the Carindale Myer store and did the deal over the phone with a lady called Nellie who would honour the two lots of 10% discount. In fact she was great, because when I went to pay I was told to get the further Myer source card discount you have to put the whole purchase on the credit card. Problem was I had $750 worth of Myer vouchers which I wanted to unload and you can't use them to pay off the card. After a few tense moments she said dont worry about it and accepted my vouchers as part payment so I only kicked in the balance on the new credit card. I paid off the credit card right then and there and will cut it in half tomorrow. Bottom line I paid $2025 for the LCD and will pick it up on Tuesday. Can't wait. Also signed up for Myer One card which is just a loyalty program were they send you Myer gift vouchers throught the mail. The purchase qualified me for $50 in vouchers. Cool deal. I picked this model because it's 'just plug in and you are away'. Can't stand the idea of having separate set top box etc. Saved on buying new cables and new HD set top box (about $700). Will let you know of picture quality etc. Will need to purchase a new DVD player for it soon, any recommendations (upscaling? etc, will connect by HDMI). Cheers
  8. Reading through this thread indicates panasonic have alluded to the fact this is an interim model and will follow up with the 600 series. I believe this to be a reasonable assumption since NZ has the new model already listed so we wont be far behind, but I agree it is unlikely we will have a digital tuner which really annoys me. I dont want the obligatory unsightly set top box on top of a really neat slimline cabinet (extra cords and stuff just looks ugly).
  9. Myers have the brochures at the counters. I believe it is a credit card with no annual fee or catch. If you join you basically can have 10% off any total transaction (voucher) and you can use it on this plasma. People use it also for gaining extra flybuys or cheaper fuel, however you don't have to keep the card. It is not new, Hope that helps Cheers
  10. I would love to purchase the new pana 600 series arriving late in the year BUT ONLY if it has a built in high-def digital tuner. It seems the NZ pana website does not mention an inbuilt digital tuner at all, whilst others in this thread believe it has one. Whats the bet Australia misses out again on yet another feature that other parts of the world enjoy. Lets hope not!
  11. Checked back with Myer. Will offer further 10% off when joing Cloes Myer Source card. Makes total price of the latest 42" HD fijitsu $3104 including stand and speakers. Does no one feel this is a good deal for one the best plasmas on the market (P42HHA51AS). Cheers
  12. Anyone interested in the Fuiji P42HHA51AS panel can buy it for $3449 from Myers Indooroopilly Brisbane. They have 30% off recommended price of $4999 and is displayed with stand and speakers. I have not asked if further 10% can be had if joining up with Myer Coles source card. The only thing is the stand seems different at the base as it has 2 feet (like a U shape) rather than one flt square like I have seen on the website. Cheers
  13. Hi, info for thoe interested in SD Panny. Hardly Normal at Indooroopilly Brisbane has ticket $2799 with 5 year extended warranty. Probably could take off extra $100 or so. Reasonable deal considering what I have seen on this site. Cheers
