  6. I never switched over the tubes i kept the ones that came with it when I bought it. I found out my amp only had low hours on the tubes after being contacted by the previous owner. I was surprised by the sound improvements of being left on compared to switching off. I am very confused about being left on compared to turning off the amp. the more you look or talk to people the different answers you get. so I have decided to do my own experiments and seeing how quickly the tubes degrade and for me I listen to my amp a lot through out the day and switching on and off all the time didnt make sense. plus it sounds better on and no waiting period. understand be different for someone who is only a weekend listener. what I find confusing is why power switches are on the back if they are ment to be switched of all the time. I did contact unison but they never responded. maybe I will try again. thanks for discussion its all very interesting.
  7. my amp sounds great but I don't have a comparison. One thing I can say tho, is I talked to the guy that owns the valve store and he told me to leave the amp on all the time. “it will not effect the tubes in a bad way” he said. Its actually better for them, as they are so small and the set up on the amp I have they really won't heat up in idle. it was an interesting conversation. But after 24hrs the amp sounded much better and I havnt turned it off since. I do listen to music alot tho so on average around 5 hours a day and maybe watch a movie at night. I bought a spare set of tubes cause it was only $120 for the set. I am curious to see how long I get out of them. I figured if I get 2 years which he said should not be a problem that I would probably get much more. So for the price of the tubes and the sound benefits of leaving it on I thought I would give it ago.
  8. sorry a newby to tubes just have a few questions. just wondering do I leave this amp on all the time it will get used approximately 5 to 6 hours a day. not sure what the set up is because the switch is at the back so I am guessing on. also it says the the tubes are good for 15000 hours. if left on that is approximately 3 years or does it only count when being played.the amp is approximately 10 years old would you recommend the tubes be changed
