  1. Further information: Here is a 2m FIBBR Crystal Series Optical Fiber HDMI cable purchased here a few months ago. Extremely flexible, and worked really nicely, but need something shorter. No longer have the box. Photos:
  2. I just connected the signal ground to the chassis, and noise is all gone! Yay!
  3. Sorry, I do have other components that use 3 pronged mains, but none of them have a binding post I can connect to. That idea (mains cable with an earth wire) doesn't sound like it'll pass any electrical tests...
  4. The preamp has 12v dc for relays and a remote, but yeah, no mains earth. I'll try connecting signal to the chassis before I drill more holes. If that doesn't work, what are strategies for connecting to an earthed chassis that don't require adding a binding post to that chassis too?
  5. Hey all, I recently completed a passive, TVC based preamp. However, it seems to pick up noise like no-body's business. If I grab a wire, and touch one end of the wire to the preamp chassis, and the other end to the chassis of an earthed component, the noise completely goes away - so I definitely need to ground the chassis. However, even if I add a grounding post (eg - a brass binding post), I don't really anything earthed to plug the other end into - unless I modify another chassis. So, do grounding boxes such as these ( https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282724242692?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28 ) fill a void where direct access to an earthing point is unavailable?

  7. How did you make the wooden enclosure? I had a crack at making one for another project using a handheld circular saw and a straight edge, but it's just not square
  8. Here's lockdown project #5. A while ago I built a TVC preamp based on some Silk TVCs I bought of DiyHiFiSupply. I finally reached a point that I need a remote control for this thing, I managed to buy a remote kit from the same place. I'm in the testing phase. As in, I was too eager to see if it works, so still haven't done any drilling in the chassis - so everything just sitting there loose, with a lovely rats nest of wires Glad it's working - I friggin love this thing! Best preamp I've ever used.
  9. Yeah - I'm using the slow filter. That weird dip is either inaudible, or an issue with the measuring equipment. There seems to be a bit of a movement that if it measures "odd/wrong/non-ideal", I won't even bother listening because it must be bad.

  11. Love the whites They're everywhere!
  12. Where did you source the door stoppers? Seems like a cheap enough thing to try out
  13. Any reason why y'all are using i2s over direct USB, especially with a Pi? Current using direct usb with my Ares 2, gets me all the way to DSD1024 (not necessary, but really wanted to see if it worked). Of course, i2s isn't an option with the Ares, but if I ever upgrade ...
  14. Loving my Ares2 over here So compact too! Very discrete amongst my other components. Feel like I haven't had it long enough to starting thinking about moving up the chain though!
