If you can't find one, since you are in Melbourne - I could clean them for you.  $5-8 per LP, depending on how many there are.

Andrew

thank you I have a 100+ i think buying a machine would be more econominal

True - that's a stack of LPs.

But, as any us tank you can buy for $120 will undoubtedly:

  1. not have a filter involved, and
  2. will probably only take one LP at a time

... when you add in the consumables (multiple tanks of distilled water, alcohol and surfectant) plus at least 25 hours of time ... it may not be that bad a proposition.

By all means send me a PM, if you find you are unsuccessful in your quest.

Thanks you i appreciate it.  I’m in a good position I work in a lab with unlimited cleaning chemicals and distilled water.  FYI goldmine records charge $2 a record over 20 and cheaper for 100.

do you fancy hiring your machines out for a weekend ?

Thanks, Chris.  👍

No, sorry.

Just a heads up for the generic ultrasonic cleaner +vinyl spinner motor kits you find on ebay and vevor,

They do work reasonably well, but they have uneven sonic power and the record contraption they usually come with is quite poorly designed with no seals to protect the labels on older records with fragile paper labels or when you might need to step up to harsher chemicals for dirtier records.

I bought one very similar to the picture from Vevor to clean a batch of 80 heavily soiled 7"s from my old Rock-Ola Jukebox and it got 90% of the gunk out of the grooves, but did damage some labels slightly, which was all I was aiming for, the jukebox is FAR from hi-fi and none of the records in it were rare or collectable, but compared to a purpose designed record cleaner it is a giant hunk of junk. The ultrasonic cleaner itself works fine as a general cleaner in the garage though.

Better to pay for a proper cleaning service, or buy a nicer unit designed for records then just sell it on after you are done.

Thank you for your tips.   I did get a vevor type this week and plan on test it out tonight.   It’s mainly 60’s rock mono’s like me Beatles and stones collection.  I plan on doing some inexpensive records first, 2 at a time and see how it effects the labels - I am worried about this too.

i don’t know if mine can do 7” as it can’t be lowered.

I am very excited to see how it works and how much junk comes out of my records.

thank you again for taking time to write to me it’s very much appreciated

it will do 7" with small holes, or big holes with an adaptor, the distance from spindle to grooves is the same.

if the kit didn't include any label protection, you can get by with a piece of foam rubber or silicon sheet cut into a disk to add a seal between the plastic clamping plates they give you.

If you are just using the normal distilled water with a splash of ISO and a drop of detergent you arent doing anything too harsh to the labels, but older record labels could still bubble or flake off with moisture.

Thanks

im probably going to use a bit of a harsher chemical ( safe for vinyl ).  I can send you a link to the info - Alconox/citranox critical cleaning solution.

Hey I’m interested in cutting some foam rubber or silicon sheet cut.  Where could I buy something suitable, Clark rubber?

I think just going to kmart and getting a silicone baking sheet and cutting some donuts out of that would work too.

thanks for the tip.  I will do this for the test run tonight.

I really appreciate your help

if ever you need any cleaning chemicals I can give you some

This guide book is way over the top but has some good info. https://thevinylpress.com/app/uploads/2024/03/PACVR_3rd-Ed-Ch1_2024-03.pdf

PS what run time should I start with,  5-10mins?

I would suggest 15-20mins.

I’m so impressed with the ultrasonic tank I got I’m looking for a second one so I can smash through my collection and use one for a deep clean with surfactants then a second one for a good water rinse.   If anyone has one please give me a shout.  Vevor 6.5l would be ideal
