Colin Whatmough’s most ambitious speakers, these units have historic serial nos. 1 and 2.

One owner. Large floor-standing, 4-way. Each speaker has 6 drivers: 1 x 305mm subwoofer, 2 x 175mm bass, 2 x 100mm midrange, 1 x tweeter.

The subwoofer enclosures are structurally separate; the other enclosures mount on top of them. The subs are powered by inbuilt 240W amps, and three crossover parameters are adjustable. The drive units apart from the subs can be driven by a single stereo amp or anything up to tri-amped.

The sound is excellent. They were reviewed glowingly in Australian Hi-Fi (November/December 2005: “Are these Australia’s best loudspeakers?”). The Paragons are still on the The Audio Experts website, RRP $49.999/pair.
