I have for sale my ME1400 stereo amplifier that I have had since 2002 when I bought it used from Trevor Wilson at Rage Audio. This was personally bench tested at the time by Peter Stein and has served me very well for all these years. This was one of the first 10 built and is built like a tank. I did have Trevor rebias it once and in 2010 I had the fascia changed as it had the old perspex front with the bulging power button. Winovate had a one of a kind gold fascia that was specifically made for someone who could not afford it, and a black on/off switch assembly which I replaced the old front with. This thing looks as good as it sounds and is the only one of it's kind in existence. Peter Stein has passed away and there will not be any more made.
For those who know ME Sound, you know what this is. It is a beast of an amplifier with a 5kVa power supply I bought to drive my Duntech Sovereigns. The only amps at the time I was told that could drive the Sovereigns were Krell , Mark Levinson and the ME 1400. I was going to buy 2 brand new ME850's but was talked out of it by Peter Stein himself. He told me to find a used ME1400 and let me know the background of this amp's design. Peter was approached by John Dunlavy (Duntech creator) to make an amplifier to drive the Sovereigns without having to spend $50k on US amps. Dunlavy wanted to partner with an Australian designer and Peter was an icon at this time. This was the amplifier he designed. The ME1400 retailed at around $12k and drove the Duntechs effortlessly, but they were too big for my room and I sold them some time ago. My current Osborn speakers do not require anywhere near the amplification on tap here and I thought I would move my pride and joy on to someone who has a harder load to drive. This monster has a dynamic headroom figure of 0db and weighs in at 54kg! I no longer have the box and because of the weight it would need to be collected. I won't post.
Recently the amp developed a bit of a hum that couldn't be heard when playing music, but could be heard when the music was off. I just spent a tad over $1500.00 to have the ME legend Ron Berger get this beast to as new condition. It now sounds exactly as it should - no hum and jaw dropping dynamics, and will provide someone with many years of audiophile grade listening.
The amp can be picked up from Wyndham Vale (Werribee area) on any day / night by arrangement.
