This one has a bit of a story... I know the story because I worked for the Onkyo distributor...
Onkyo was late to the party with Bluetooth/Streaming products. They introduced a protocol called FireConnect (aimed to be something like Heos or MusicCast) to communicate between AV products. This product (NCP-302) was supposed to be Onkyo's 'smart speaker'. But the whole thing (FireConnect and the NCP-302) was too late to the market. The big players won.
The NCP-302 is, however, a very decent product. It's a very nice-sounding Bluetooth speaker. It has a 3.5mm aux input. And the icing on the cake is that has Chromecast Audio built in - so you can cast to it from an Android device or use it as a Roon end-point.
I bought half a dozen of these things a few years ago and gave most of them as gifts. I have one that I keep for holidays. And I have one that I'm offering for sale. Until yesterday it was sealed in the original box, but I opened it up just to make sure that the firmware updates are still on-line and available (they are - and this unit now has the latest firmware in it), that the Onkyo setup app is still available (it is) and that the Chromecast capability is still working (it is!).
So, with that back-story, I offer one brand-new (but open box) NCP-302 smart speaker.
From the maker:
Enjoy your music wirelessly with the black Onkyo NCP-302 Wireless Speaker. It features Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and DTS Play-Fi technologies to connect to many types of wireless components, plus an Ethernet port for wired network connectivity. It has two 3.25" woofers and a 1" balanced-dome tweeter in a bass-reflex MDF cabinet for enhanced sound quality. The NCP-302 can be controlled wirelessly with the Onkyo Controller app and includes an 1/8" auxiliary cable for a quick wired setup.
Onkyo Controller App
The Onkyo Controller app collects your network music libraries, streaming services, and wirelessly tethered FireConnect-compatible component sources and presents them in a smartphone interface that's designed to be easy to navigate, with multi-zone playback controls.
Network Streaming Services
Spotify, TIDAL, TuneIn, and Pandora are built-in – use the Spotify Connect app and the Onkyo Controller for other services to stream almost any music you want.
Designed for Rich, Warm Acoustics
An amp designed for efficiency drives two woofers and a tweeter within an MDF cabinet.
Dual-Band Wi-Fi for Enhanced Stability
Select 2.4 or 5 GHz bandwidth modes to avoid network congestion and enjoy enhanced wireless stability. A LAN port is also onboard if you prefer a wired connection.
Play Anything with Bluetooth
Pair your device with Bluetooth for a quick connection to any compatible mobile device.
Designed for Simple Setup
Connect your mobile device via the included stereo mini-jack cable and the app guides you through a one-time network connection procedure.
Mirror Analog or Digital Sources
Use the Onkyo Controller app to mirror what's playing on any FireConnect-compatible component on the NCP-302 speaker. With the right source, you can enjoy streaming audio, vinyl records, HDMI audio, and FM/AM radio anywhere in your home; transmission of certain analog and digital sources from compatible components requires a firmware update.
Enjoy Music with Chromecast built-in
Cast music from your compatible smartphone, laptop, or computer to your speaker with ease. Control playback with apps you know from your iOS or Android phone or tablet, Mac or Windows laptop, or Chromebook.
Additional Features
DTS Play-Fi audio casting and distribution from compatible smart devices
Bass-reflex enclosure for enhanced bass
Physical controls include input selection, play/pause, skip, stop, and volume
Auto power-on and playback upon network signal detection
Perforated metal grille for enhanced protection
Rubber insulator feet included
As I said, I've upgraded to the latest firmware. I've tested Ethernet and WiFi connectivity. I've tested Chromecast connection (from Android phone and from Roon). I've tested Bluetooth. All working. (As for all Onkyo products, initial connection via Chromecast can take 10-20 seconds, but once the connection is established it works fine.)
[Screen shot of Onkyo Controller app shows the path to setup networking on the device: choose 'Set up wireless speaker products'.]
Unit is now re-packed in original carton with all original accessories. I don't think you'll find better bang for buck in terms of sound quality and connectivity. It's a shame that Onkyo was too late to the market because the product itself is good. But timing is everything!
