Further Information

Often considered one of Yamaha's best integrated amplifiers with specifications that surpass Yamaha's modern day equivalents at double the price.. A legendary icon in the vintage world and an absolute statement piece that was heavily overengineered and beautifully designed. As Mike from Liquid Audio says:

Quote

you’d be insane to drop the $9000 AUD needed to buy an A-S3000 when you can have the original CA-2010 for much less than that. If you can find one of course…Even more gut-wrenching for those who’ve purchased this new Yamaha equipment is that the older Yamaha CA-2010 has better specs than the $4000 AUD A-S2100 and maybe even the A-S3000 too. Forget fancy connectors, this is just bling, I’m talking about the real specs. I know which one I’d prefer.

This amplifier was looked over by Colin Pyle, serviced and recapped to the absolute highest standard last year. Using the highest quality electrolytics wherever possible.

This was quite a costly overhaul, but I never thought that I would sell it and wanted to futureproof the unit for the next 50 years.

Still has original lamps which look fantastic and emit a low light warm vintage glow at night. One of the cleanest, well taken care of and very well presented CA's I have come across.

Full documentation of the upgrades included, this includes a rebuild sheet PDF and photographs of all internal boards.

I will likely regret selling this monster but it is what it is.

The fader control of this unit has been bypassed, sale will also include a high quality step down transformer.

Was also advised that it can quite simply be converted to 240V if desired.

Thanks!

Great looking amp.

I have my fathers CR2020 model which I would love to have recapped and serviced.

What was the cost for this units recapping and serviced if you don't mine sharing? PM me if you prefer.

Doing a quick google search of Colin Pyle, he is based in Brisbane?

Cheers

Nice to hear that you are a proud owner of such a beautiful amp!

Where are you located? If in Melbourne, I would take it to Paul from Zamtek as he is a qualified Yamaha repairer.

Depending on how far you want to take it, and if you plan to use the best possible electrolytics  to significantly improve the sound of the unit taking it to another level could send you upwards to a grand.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Paul from Zamtek sounds good, I'm in the Clayton area.

Why did you use Colin Pyle instead of  Paul from Zamtek?

$1000 isn't to bad, if it put new life back into the old girl.

DIdn't know of anyone else then. Any good technician should be competent enough to carry out a basic service and a health-check up. Just make sure they work on Yamaha's.

If nothing is wrong with it, and the amp functions perfectly - I would leave it as is !

You would be surprised at how over-engineered these amplifiers were. Unless there are obvious signs that the amplifier needs attention, just enjoy it as it was intended!
