Further Information

Very good condition Musical Fidelity A3-24 DAC.

Hefty 10kg tank like build quality. Made in the UK.

When new, this DAC retailed for about $2,500.

As a sound processor and upscaler, it is great and significantly boosts its performance as a DAC.

One can toggle between upscaling to 96 or 192KHz.

The analog section of the DAC is well designed too (see internal pics).

I've put it up against in an A/B comparison many newer similar priced DACs. Makes the newer light weight DACs sound thin and digital.

Inside the unit, a generous sized torriodal transformer, big caps etc. A good clean power supply, makes for a better sounding DAC.

Many new DAC makers (especially ones in the sub- $3k price), cheap out on the power supply, and market their sub 1-2Kg DACs as great products.

The latest DAC chips can never overcome these shortcomings of crappy power supply!

Nice!

One of the better sounding Delta Sigma dacs, thanks mainly to the linear power supply and  "massive" twin choke regulation MF used from left over surplus they purchased for some previous tube gear they made.

Made me do a mod for it which made it sound better again, for whoever buys it, here's the direct coupling/dc offset zero'ing mod I did for it https://ibb.co/ByzpDNC

Steps

1: short out caps C101 and C201 (it's then direct coupled from d/a converter to rca output)

2: 5kohm cermet pots in place of resistors R108 and R208 (to zero out any dc offset at the rca output)

 Cheers George
