Yamaha C-2a preamplifier restored, good condition.
Legendary phono stage, needing no introduction.
Fully serviced by Mike Fitzpatrick (Liquid Audio, Perth) and in good working condition.
Occasional popping on phono (only) channels remains.
Invoice of service available from Nov 2022, but in a nutshell:
- Deep cleaning and service required.
- Transistor insulating washers are perished. Intermittent EQ stage bias issue is caused by microscopic cracks in a PCB trace and dry joints at a resistor associated with this circuit. All adjustments needed. Rear panel connector service needed.
Completed
- Inspected, cleaned, repaired and serviced preamp, as required. Disassembled various modules, cleaned boards, reworked dry joints, serviced RCA to board connectors and module.
- Serviced all switches and controls.
- Replaced TO-220 device insulating washers.
- Made all electronic adjustments.
- Traced remaining bias fault to damaged trace and intermittent resistor pad contact.
- Repaired, re-tested, re-adjusted, reassembled.
- Replaced secondary power supply capacitors.
- Retested and adjusted. Cleaned exterior and knobs.
Remaining
-
None noted, though some minor DC instability and thermal drift noted in phono EQ stage.
The exterior is in good condition with no noticeable scratches or stains and all external controls working well.
Priced for quick sale.
Matches beautifully with my B-2 also for offer in the Power Amp classifieds section.
