Further Information

I've owned these for approximately 7 years. I bought them from a mate who was the original purchaser from Mike.

They are a sensational speaker - very neutral, detailed and revealing. Unfortunately, in my listening area I just cannot do them justice. They need space around them and air to breathe, but I can't do that in my setup.

They look absolutely magnificent in the Piano Gloss Black with leather surrounds. They are unmarked other than the footprints from the ETI toppers that I had on them.

I drove them with a PrimaLuna Prologue valve amp which, while it sounded lovely, didn't really have enough juice to really make them sing. When I hooked them up to my Denon PMA-2500 it was a different story. Sublime! The most natural vocals I have heard from any speaker I have heard or owned.

The speakers had an introductory RRP of $4990 upon release.

Marc's 2014 Stereonet review can be found here: https://www.stereonet.com/au/reviews/eti-lenehan-s2r-speakers/, and the original news of release can be found here: https://www.stereonet.com/au/news/eti-lenehan-s2r-loudspeakers

I also have the original "User Manual" notes provided and hand signed by Mike Lenehan.

SPECS:

Cabinet - 32mm MDF, Differential Cancellation bracing using 13mm and 8mm steel rod braces.

Tweeter - 1” chambered textile dome.

Mid-bass Driver - 6.5” Nomex cone.

Wiring - solid core copper.

Frequency Response - 35 - 25,000 Hz +/- 1.5 dB

Sensitivity - 87 dB @ 2.83 V/m

Impedance - 8 ohms nominal, minimum 6.5 ohms @ 200 Hz

Recommended Amplifier Power - 20 - 400 watts

Cabinet Dimensions (HWD) - 430 x 230 x 345 mm

Weight (per speaker) - 20 kg

The first few photos are of my actual speakers, but I have also borrowed from a previous advert because they show off the speakers better. They are identical in presentation.

Sorry, but pickup only on these unless you want to organise your own courier. I do not have the original boxes or suitable packaging. (I did a road trip Mel-Syd-Mel to collect them from my mate. They were well worth it!)

Great AU made loud speakers, GLWTS..

Will these speakers be a good candidate for low watt tube amplifier?

Mike Lenehan makes great value speakers. However, as in this case with bookshelf speakers, efficiency is not their strong point.

87dB may not be ideal for low wattage tube amplifiers. Remember, for every 3dB drop in efficiency, you need to double the wattage to achieve the same output sound volume level.

Ideally for a low wattage tube amp, 94-96dB minimum efficiency would be required (higher in very low wattage tube amps).

Thanks! They are pretty special.

WRT "low watt tube amplifier".... As Silver Audiophile notes, these are not really suited to low wattage amps. I initially ran them with my Prima Luna Prologue amp with KT150 tubes which offered around 40w RMS, but I didn't feel that gave them enough juice to really sing. They sound much better with my Denon PMA2500 Solid State amp which was feeding them up to 80w.

These are real lookers.

Yes, and photos don't do them justice. They are beautiful piano gloss.

Too bad you're in Melbourne, I would have loved to have had an audition. There are very tempting. I've probably looked at this ad on a daily basis since it was posted. Good luck with the sale.

At $2000 these are a bargain........any of Mike Lenahans speakers are very special sonically and need to be experienced. Stop looking and ACT quickly. This speaker is very rare to see on sale.
