Further Information

Hello, The time has come when I must move on my sublime Guarneri Homages, living conditions have changed dramatically since I first purchased this pair from an Aust dealer as Trade-ins in 011—(I have the shipping documents)— being now in a small Room setup the Stereo must go.

The speakers are Ser# 1165.1997.I am, I was told the second owner and the items I’m outlining  regarding the Speakers were as I purchased them unseen in person as I am in North Qld and the dealer was in Sydney.

So I will mention the items to consider before one moves to be inclined to progress  with purchasing interest .

Firstly as I’ve pointed out on the files loaded with a Blue arrow are “bright fading “areas in the Varnish —possibly caused by sunlight /etc —so note those please,it is under the Hi-Gloss finish.

Secondly the dealer packaging was so disgraceful( have pics!) —the stands for these jewels in the crown were just thrown together in a cardboard box with minimal support and consequently one stand was split along the bottom —as shown and with strings parted. I repaired and glued it all without removing the Stand cabling which would be ideal but a tricky job.

So the repair has lasted the near on14 years and I can tell the prospective buyer how to negate this when assembling or moving the speaker—it worked for me . The Speaker strings all straight—maybe will move in transit but I can show the buyer how to bring them to pristine as pictured.

I have the factory wood case for the speakers and have cartons for the stands plus separate boxes for the Slate bottoms—damn heavy!

So no they aren’t perfect —you will have to look elsewhere but overall very good condition with all drivers performing to spec-never overdriven and only with a 20 W Tube Integrated. There are no scratches dents / dings on the speakers—the stands apart from what I mentioned  are visually near to excellent -strings all matching—Slate —no chips visible .

The Units have Custom made velvet Covers and come with 2x pairs Jumper cables that came from the supplying dealer.

I really don’t think I need to rave on re the sonics—I’m still mesmerised and in awe of what these little gems can deliver—all I say is they are possibly the most fulfilling Transducers I have ever owned so a lot has passed under and over the bridge since I bought my first audio item in 1960 a Zenith Royal 500  and Richard Allen speaker!

So study photos and peruse the reviews . Thank you and please ask any questions.

Couple of notes  Bank transfer only please .Returns are not accepted sorry. Quotation for 5 Boxes will be given upon request —using Pack and Send from here.

Stereophile:

The Guarneri's every detail has been fine-tuned, it's worth exploring in greater depth how the speaker is built. Again, quoting Sonus Faber:

"The [cabinet] comprises 42 separate elements hand-sawn from solid wood. Each element is bonded to its neighbour using organic glue and heat pressing techniques identical to those used centuries ago in the manufacture of violins.

"The walnut, maple, and limewood used for the various parts is dried naturally for two years and then stabilised in kilns. The rear of the enclosure is shaped from a single block of Lime Wood. The interior walls of the enclosure are selectively damped using proprietary sheet copper and lead tuning elements."

To which I would add that the 1"-thick driver baffle, covered in grained black leather, consists of 15 layers of birch multi-ply. An aluminium-alloy extrusion forms the inner section of the sculpted rear deck and carries the bass-reflex loading duct and the terminal array.

The main curved body of the enclosure is said to be partly voiced by the specific technique of layered finishing, in the manner of a violin body: "The surface of the wood is prepared for finish by first sealing it with albumin to prevent penetration of the multilayered varnish. The application of many coats of varnish is the time-honoured tradition in violin-making that has a profound effect on the final sound. We assure you that the sound of 'Guarneri Homage' benefits from the special finish produced by blending natural organic substances, including Venetian larch turpentine, linseed oil, propolis, wine alcohol, gamboge, copal gum, and Oliban. No fewer than ten coats of varnish are applied to each cabinet, hand-sanding then accompanying each finishing coat."

After the final polishing, which is done by hand, each Guarneri cabinet is buffed to a mirror-like finish. The finish is certainly deeper and clearer than speakers that have polyurethane or cellulose-based piano-gloss finishes.
