Further Information

Hi all,

Wanting to buy a Yamaha R-S700 Receiver Amplifier. I am getting into stereo hifi and I want to play with my Dad's collection of old cassette tapes, and play with an external DAC which is why I am after this specific model.

I have had enough of my crappy Officeworks Logitech plastic speakers and want more out of my sound. I have had a look at the Class D Amplifiers out of China with names like: Topsing, SNLAUDIO, and NOTHERETOMORROW and honestly, I just don't believe there is a replacement for displacement. I want to get an old school amplifier built on classic lines, which is why I am after a Yamaha. Also - I found a vinyl record player in Dad's shed, and between that and hundreds of CD's given to me, I would like to get a stereo amplifier that can do the classic things that my Dad's Sansui Integrated Amplifier can do, which means listen to music, and offload really good tracks to tape, or flick switches and turn on loudness etc.

Also - I feel sad that a lot of great music and media is being lost and thrown out, so I want to use the receiver function to digitise great bits as I listen to it, probably to a digital audio player. I love that this is all analog.

My initial research has led me to the R-S700 which is why I thought I would put out the feelers, but honestly, posting on the internet is a bit like throwing paper airplanes off a cliff. Who knows if I get a response!

I am located in the Greater Sydney area and happy to drive anywhere local. I have no firm idea of the market price so please educate me if I am the one out of whack and I will eat humble pie. I am on a budget though and prices have gone crazy since Covid so I don't know what is what... so I just put my fantasy price for a 15 year old piece of kit 🙂

My current gear is a PSB Imagine Mini set of bookshelf speakers ($100 USED) and am borrowing for a month the old Sansui but I have to give it back soon, hence this post!
