Further Information

Gieseler Audio KOMPACT R2R Non OverSamplig dac!

Another item to clear from an old customers covid purchase frenzies 🫢

Purchased to go into a second system that never eventuated, this dac has been sitting in its box for almost 2 years, we have run it in to have a listen and its performance is amazing for the price,  you need to spend a lot more to better this dac. Only a limited number of these were made.

The AD1862 is considered one of the best R2R DAC chips of all time & rated up there with the Burr Brown PCM1704. The KOMPACT is Non Oversampling configuration ladder dac, it has a really big solid bottom end & that is probably due to the lovely LME49990 op amp output stage. The other bonus with active output stages is that both RCA & XLR outputs can be used simultaneously with no sound deterioration. As usual all the capacitors in the power supplies & decoupling are top notch audio grade, eg Nichicon Muse & KA series. Output level is 2v RCA & 4v XLR both RMS. Sample rates: 20bit 192K USB & Coax – 96K optical.

Made in Australia by a very talented guy, a bargain dac, hi-end sound at sane pricing. It is as new in its box, untouched paperwork, mint 12v power supply. Build date Dec 2021, its a 2022 model with 100 hours run in time.

Shipping anywhere in Australia will be very affordable, its not a heavy box, please msg with your postcode if you would like a quote.

Nice Dac. Gotta correct this ad, it's not a true NOS DAC. This DAC is working in 4x and 8x oversampling mode, hence the digital filter selections switches. A NOS DAC has no digital filter selection.

From the manufacturer:

I am running it in non oversampling mode (NOS) as this is now getting to be a very popular topology with R2R ladder DAC’s.

NOS operation mode is achieved with a fairly standard technique using shift registers which are the six 14 SO-14 ICs in a line, see photos.

My mistake, I was looking at the older Kompact model that has digital filters.
It's pretty cool that this NOS model has user-adjustable analogue filters, I've not seen that before on a DAC. Nice!
