Offered for sale is an exceptionally rare, first-edition 1982 Sony WM-D6 Professional (Serial #15404). This is the legendary "Green Script" version from the very first production era, highly sought after by collectors for its hand-built internal circuitry and purely analog signal path.
Provenance & Usage:
This unit has a unique "time capsule" history. I originally purchased it to complement my Nakamichi Dragon, with the intent to record high-fidelity tapes on the Dragon for travel. However, those plans never eventuated. As a result, this Walkman has seen incredibly light use—only approximately 20 cassettes have ever been played through it.
Audio Performance & Features:
• Professional Grade Head: This unit features the original Sendust and Ferrite (S&F) head—the same professional-grade head found in Sony’s full-sized field recorders of the era. It remains in immaculate condition due to the extremely low runtime.
• Pro-Grade Connectivity: Features Dual Outputs (2 Headphone Jacks and a dedicated Stereo Line Out) plus a switchable Line In / Microphone In selector. The dedicated Line Out allows for a pure signal path when connected to a home Hi-Fi system.
• The "Dragon" Connection: While the unit features Dolby B, it was chosen specifically for its musicality. Having compared it to Dolby C recordings on my Nakamichi, I consistently found Dolby B to be more natural and "alive," whereas Dolby C often felt sterile.

• Cosmetic: The iconic green "Professional" and "Quartz" lettering is crisp and vibrant. Please note that the white "Normal/CrO2/Metal" and "Tape" lettering near the selector switch has partially rubbed off due to age, but green tape type Roman numerals = l, ll, and lV are still clear, so it’s pretty obvious what tape type you have selected. This helps you optimize the equalization for recording or playback. (120 or 70 ultra seconds.)

The 582 was a high end 3-head cassette deck with calibration functions during the 1980s. I bought this cassette deck in 1980 and it has worked beautifully since, however It recently stopped working about 2 months ago. The deck has had regular servicing every 5-7 years to replace rollers and bands in the cassette transport mechanism. I took it recently to Len Wallis audio in Sydney for repair / servicing when it stopped working, however they were unable to get hold of the parts required. I decide not to go any further as I still have another fully functional Nakamichi cassette deck which I can still use to play my recordings I made over the past decades.

I don't have the original purchase receipt, however I still have the original box it came in (it was purchased through Convoy - which was the importer of Nakamichi decks in the 1980s) and I also have the original user manuals.

This is a complete Otari MX5050B mk II 1/4" 2 track tape recorder. It has sat in storage since I bought it fifteen years ago (for a project I never started) and requires a service at a minimum and perhaps even more than that.
When I tested it just now I found the following:
The pinch roller is stiff to move but can be manually pushed into position for use.
The motor spindle is not spinning. I don't know if this is a fault or perhaps it needs a remote control bypass to run??? (Anyone who knows this for sure, either way, is welcome to post the info up here for all to see.
Fast forward and rewind work OK.
The counter works OK.
Everything else seems to light up as expected.

Note that it has a sticker on it saying it is for "microphone input only" - I don't know if this is a modification or just some sort of studio note. (I was planning to use it with mics for acapella audio recording of vocal demos so this is, ion fact, why I bought this unit in the first place.)

So there may or may not be quite a lot needed to turn this into a fully working deck. I just need to clear old projects so I am selling it "For Parts Only" and if it turns out to just need a basic service then that's a bonus for the buyer. I looked online and the cheapest price I can see for a non-working "parts" unit is $700 so I will ask just half of that - $350. Buyer to collect - I can hold up to 24 hours but no longer before moving onto the next person in line. Pickup from Box Hill South.

NB It also includes the remote (which is not wired up) and the original instruction book.

This unit was bought for a project ten years ago however I ended up using a Nagra IVS instead due to the portability of the swiss unit. While this deck should probably be treated to a CLA due to lack of use I have plugged it in and tested all functions (except record) and everything works fine including FF and Rewind, play, reverse on the fly and auto stop when the tape is finished. Pinch roller and heads look good.
It is located at my work and I don't have equipment here to fully demo it but I will offer the buyer a 3 day return option if they are not 100% satisfied with the unit. (If you bring some headphones you can test playback on site.)
It does not include the test tape in the pictures.
Pickup only from Box Hill South - no amount of inducement will persuade me to try to pack this thing for transport so please don't ask.

A&D stands for Akai & Diatone. Diatone is a brand name used by Mitsubishi for the Japanese market.

It is near mint condition with a full service and new belts carried out in September of this year.

Denon HD8/90 metal cassette tapes, the price is for all five cassettes.
Please note these cassettes have been recorded on and therefore used. Write protect tabs pushed in, very easy to resolve with sticky tape. I'm with the understanding they are at the pinnacle sonically. Made in Japan. Unclear on age or able to test as my antiquated tape player may eat them.

This Teac Tape Machine has been used 2-3 times to transfer a tape to PC.
I bought it just under 1 year ago from a technician who has well over a decade of experience in high end audio.
The machine has been checked and serviced recently and is still in as new condition.
