Yamaha’s MusicCast System Gets Major Functionality Update
Yamaha’s MusicCast wireless music system has received a major functionality update via the MusicCast app, highlighting Yamaha’s ongoing commitment to MusicCast.
Yamaha says its latest app overhaul has focused more on the user experience than the product itself, and considers how customers use their MusicCast system.
RECENTS
A key change is a move towards ‘Recents’ – the most recently used room, recent sources, and recent music. Maximising the ability to link rooms or change system settings, these frequently used functions are now more readily available from the main control screen.
Opening the app takes the user directly to the most recently used room with direct access to the recent sources (showing up to 4 recently used sources), recent music (up to 8 recents) and the ‘now playing’ mini menu. A tap of the ‘now playing’ mini menu will expand to full-screen operation.
ROUTINES
Another major introduction is the inclusion of ‘Routines’. Routines allow users to create a listening session based on their ‘routine’. For example, waking in the morning might include turning on the system in the bedroom or bathroom, then having that audio linked to the kitchen at their own specific volume settings and playing the local radio station.
This is all set up using the current states of the chosen devices and then simply saved as a ‘Routine’ via the now easily accessible ‘Routines’ menu. For convenience, a ‘Leaving Home’ routine is already included, which is an ‘all power off’ function for any connected MusicCast device.
CONVENIENCE
Transitioning between rooms is now easier with a drop-down icon accessible from the current room within the app. When all rooms are visible, functions such as ‘All Power Off’, ‘All Mute On’ and ‘Volume’ remain fixed at the top of the app, making system control accessible all the time.
In addition, room settings are easily accessible from the main room screen rather than buried deeper into the app. New devices can also be added directly from this screen.
In the main ‘Now Playing’ menu, options such as favourites and queue have been added to greater playback customisation.
MusicCast has a product that works seamlessly through each area of your home, from AV receivers to soundbars and wireless speakers. MusicCast represents the cutting-edge of audio technology and trademark sound quality that Yamaha is renowned for.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
