Wilson Benesch Fibonacci Speakers Now Available

English loudspeaker brand Wilson Benesch has made a name for itself using cutting-edge technology and high-tech materials. Its new Fibonacci range is no exception.

Established in 1989 in Sheffield, England, the company is now globally recognised. Its principles of innovation, collaboration and pure research within materials science remain firmly at the heart of the Wilson Benesch ethos.

Wilson Benesch's outgoing Geometry Series was considered by many to be one of the world's premier speaker systems, so expectations were high for its new Fibonacci Series.

George Moraitis, Director of Nirvana Sound, the Australian distributor of Wilson Benesch, told StereoNET:

We are so excited by these speakers… when I refer to Wilson Benesch as the Formula One of speakers, I'm not playing around with words – I mean it! While other speaker companies are building cabinets out of MDF, wood and plastic with heavy internal bracing, these guys are building one-piece Bio-Carbon monocoque chassis!

Fibonacci takes “speaker performance to a new level and the sound quality is exceptional, with even greater resolution, natural tonality, and realism”, says the company. This new range is said to be the first loudspeaker in the world to be constructed from the revolutionary new composite material 'Biocarbon', which has four times the damping factor of carbon fibre. The cabinets are single-entity biocarbon monocoque construction – just like a Formula One racecar chassis.

The performance in terms of internal chamber geometry, damping factor, resonance minimisation and energy management is on a level beyond anything ever witnessed in audio applications.

The Fibonacci Series speaker range comprises six models, including two stand-mount speakers, including the Discovery 3Zero, a 2.5-way 3-driver model selling in Australia for $41,000 RRP. The second model is the Endeavour 3Zero, a 2.5-way 3-driver design retailing for $74,000 RRP.

The four floorstanding models include A.C.T. 3Zero, 2.5-way, and 4-drivers, selling for $68,000 RRP. This is followed by the Resolution 3Zero, a 2-way electric/4-way acoustic with 5 drivers for $102,000 RRP. There's also the Omnium, a 2.5-way electric/4-way acoustic design featuring 7 drivers, which sells for $200,000 RRP. Finally, the flagship is the Eminence, a 2.5-way, 8 driver model that will top out at $300,000 RRP.

Prices above are finished in the Standard Textured Black; however, for an additional cost, all models can be special ordered in choices of premium walnut veneers, luxury paint finishes inspired by high-end sports cars and other premium options.

Moriaitis added:

Their greatest achievement is sonically disappearing – just pure music, no speaker. More than ever, audiophiles and music enthusiasts alike have a greater choice beyond the 'usual' offerings of high-end speakers that are still doing things the same way today as they were 15 years ago. The Wilson Benesch Fibonacci Series offers technology you cannot find anywhere else. Given the right upstream electronics, they are supreme communicators of emotion.

The new Wilson Benesch Fibonacci range is available for audition now at Nirvana Sound's purpose-built showroom in Melbourne.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
