The Darblet in Australia

Decibel Hi Fi in Brisbane has been chosen as a reseller of the Darblet DVP 5000 video enhancer. Simple to use, this US-developed device accepts any HDMI input signal up to full HD, including 3D, and improves the detail and sense of depth in the image, before passing it on to a display.

Every TV has a picture 'enhancement' or 'sharpening' capability, but these usually do more harm than good, introducing distortion to the picture.  Darbee Vision, the developers of the Darblet, created a system which works on completely different principles. The Darblet identifies foreground picture objects and enhances their contrast and detail without producing halos or other artefacts around the objects. Aside from increasing the perceived detail, this process tends to add a sense of depth to the image.

Extremely well reviewed across the home theatre press, the video processing used in the Darblet has been incorporated in two high-end Blu-ray players from US maker Oppo Digital.

The Darblet is a compact device, just 100mm long by 50mm wide and 19mm deep, it's easy to use, with two HDMI connections and power from the included adapter. A demo mode helps the user select the best settings.

The Darblet is available for $396, including delivery, by direct order from Decibel. There is a 14 day money back guarantee. It will also be showing at the Australian Audio & AV Show, running from 17 to 19 October 2014 at the InterContinental Melbourne Rialto Hotel.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
