Sonus faber Launches New Lumina Amator Loudspeakers
Sonus faber adds the Lumina II Amator bookshelf and the Lumina V Amator floorstander to its Lumina loudspeaker collection.
The new Lumina Amator models from Sonus faber continue the minimalist design philosophy of their stablemates; however, you still get some Italian style alongside technical upgrades in the 2-way Lumina II Amator standmounters and 3-way Lumina V Amator floorstanders.
Both offerings are made in Italy and constructed from natural materials, including all-new wood front panels alongside a glossy 45° angle wood veneer finish in three colourways.
These stylish yet unfussy cabinets contain the same damped apex dome tweeters from the Lumina and Sonetto series featuring a Kurtmueller hand-coated soft silk diaphragm.
The Lumina II Amator features a 29mm tweeter and a 15cm midwoofer equipped with the custom-made basket and diaphragm of cellulose pulp blended with other natural fibres, while the V Amator floorstander sports a vented box design housing the same 29mm tweeter but partnered with a 15cm mid-range and a pair of paper pulp cone 16.5cm woofers specially designed for this series.
Upgraded components in the crossover networks (2600 Hz in the II Amator and 260 and 2850 Hz in the V Amator) promise to deliver a “breath-taking performance” from almost any position in your room, with many innovations trickling down from existing lines, such as the Amati and Homage collections, such as the company's dedicated circuitry and filter designs for “greater resolution and more rigorous and coherent reproduction”.
The resulting specifications include a claimed 55 Hz-24,000 Hz frequency response from the 86dB SPL (2.83V/1m) sensitive Lumina II Amator. The Lumina V Amator, meanwhile, weighs in with a 38 Hz–24,000 Hz frequency response and 89 dB SPL (2.83V/1m) sensitivity. Both state a 4ohm nominal impedance.
We have been impressed by Sonus faber's Lumina III and reckon these new models will prove popular when they land in Europe in December 2023 and the rest of the world in January 2024.
The Lumina II Amator has an RRP overseas of £1,299/ €1,499 per pair, and the Lumina V Amator will sell for £2,999/ €3,499 per pair, with both models available in glossy red, glossy wenge or glossy walnut. Australian pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
