Silcron Releases MaxConnect CD Player

Silcron, likely remembered by more senior readers for its range of Australian-made loudspeakers and turntables manufactured in the 1970s, has announced the release of its thoroughly modern MaxConnect CD Player.

The feature-rich CD player has been designed for the modern music listener - it includes 2-way Bluetooth, a front-facing 3.5mm stereo headphone connection with 50mW + 50mW at 32Ω, and a high output headphone amplifier delivering the full potential of connected headphones.

It also utilises the ESS9038Q2M SABRE DAC, which supports low-jitter playback for your CD and USB drive whilst delivering high-resolution 32-bit/384kHz playback. It plays all your favourite CD formats, including CD-DA/MP3/CD-RW. The USB input supports high-resolution music playback from MP3/WMA/APE/WAV/FLAC with sampling rates (PCM) up to 384kz.

The MaxConnect is equipped with outputs including RCA, XLR, Optical, Coaxial and USB, ensuring compatibility with all your gear and providing longevity so your player can continually be repurposed with future upgrades.

Andrew McGregor, Partner Manager at Audacity Australia, which distributes Silcron in Australia, told StereoNET:

Whilst online streaming represents the major share of music consumption, consumers have been returning to classic formats such as vinyl and their CD collection. We designed the MaxConnect to be as universal as possible, fitting all your home audio gear from speakers, studio monitors and receivers. We've received an increase in consumer feedback of the desire to use all three formats, Vinyl, CD and streaming, so we wanted to design in a small form factor with those customers in mind.

Completed with an elegant silver brushed aluminium finish and a compact half-width design, it offers a convenient form factor and stylish look. The large 5” LED display was selected to ensure visibility from your listening position, making it easy to view track selection using the wireless remote control. The display can show the track number, timer, sample rate, source, or volume. The full function remote enables Play, Stop, Skip, Shuffle single or All, Repeat, and Program.

The Silcron MaxConnect CD Player will be available from October 2024 and will sell for $399 RRP in Australia. It will debut at the upcoming StereoNET Melbourne Hi-Fi & AV Show, Room 1203, October 11-13. Tickets are on sale now.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
