PS Audio Aspen FR10 Loudspeakers Now Available

PS Audio says, “It’s the next logical step in the acclaimed Aspen series” when referring to its newly released FR10, designed for smaller spaces.

PS Audio's Aspen FR10 stands just over 1 meter tall and 20 cm wide and weighs just 34kg - it's the compact version of its predecessors.

It features a new 8-inch planar midrange and draws upon the sound and technology from the FR30, to squeeze it into a more compact form factor suitable for a speaker of this size. The company says it moved the planar midrange below to the tweeter “to maintain optimal listening height and also lower the over all height of the speaker”. Paired with the same tweeter from previous models, the FR10 produces “the familiar sound we have all come to know from FR20 and 30”.

When it comes to bass response, the FR10 packs an impressive punch. According to the company, the Aspen Series' designer, Chris Brunhaver, incorporated two new 6.5-inch woofers that extend down to 30hz. These are complimented by a trio of 6x9” passive radiators that maximise surface area for performance but are discreetly tucked on the back of the speaker. Crossover frequencies are specified at 550 Hz and 1750 Hz, being Linkwitz Riley 4th order acoustic. Sensitivity is rated at 86.5dB (2.83V @ 1M), with a 4-ohm nominal impedance (3.3-ohm minimum). Finally, the frequency response is rated to 32 Hz-20 kHz (-6dB) half space, 25 Hz (-6 dB) in-room.

Changes were also made to the cabinet construction, with the new design featuring 'through bolts' throughout the entire speaker, allowing for stronger structural rigidity while at the same time making for easy access to the internals of the speaker.

The PS Audio Aspen FR10 are available now in Satin White or Satin Black and sells in Australia for $18,995 RRP.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
