Origin Acoustics Lands New Australian Home with Oceanic Distribution
One of the leading manufacturers and go-to choice of integrators for architectural audio products, Origin Acoustics, is now available in Australia once again, thanks to Oceanic Distribution.
Appointed as its exclusive Australian distribution partner, Origin has enjoyed tremendous global growth for its vast application range, as well as tool-less installation, and of course, its sound quality.
From humble beginnings, company founders Ken Humphries and Ed Haase opened a small stereo store in Riverside, California, in 1976. They saw an opportunity to bring an entirely new level of music quality into the home and began to experiment with speaker designs.
While listening to a pair of stereo speakers in a family room was a great experience, it was their vision that people wanted to enjoy music throughout the home. In the early 80s, Ken and Ed invented a loudspeaker that would mount flush into the wall and change the face of an industry. The company's name and branding, ownership, and even the designs themselves may have evolved a few times. Still, Origin Acoustics has gone on to become the second most popular brand in the category, as published in the 2019 CEPro Brand Analysis.
Origin's international director, Jose Coelho, told StereoNET:
Oceanic Distribution impressed us with its deep knowledge of the Australian market and reputation with our customers in the region. We're now working hard to get product to our clients and friends.
James Hicks, Business Development Director at Oceanic Distribution, added:
We're delighted to add Origin Acoustics' impressive line of products to our business, we look forward to taking care of all Origin's clients and friends in Australia as well as making new ones.
The new distribution agreement, effective immediately, will see Oceanic supplying, supporting, and marketing the entire Origin range within Australia. Dealer enquiries are welcome.
StereoNET’s Founder and Publisher was born in England and raised on British Hi-Fi before moving to Australia. He developed an early love of music and playing bass guitar before discovering the studio and the other side of the mixing desk. After a few years writing for audio magazines, Marc saw the future in digital publishing and founded the first version of StereoNET, known at the time as Planet Audio, in 1999.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
