MartinLogan Announces Motion and Motion XT Reimagined Speaker Ranges

Kansas, United States-based loudspeaker experts MartinLogan have announced two new product lines, the Motion and the Motion XT premium collection of loudspeakers.

The company says the ranges have been completely reimagined with a fresh attitude, sleek design, and advanced audio technology for the “ultimate listening experience”.

Motion is said to be the result of an ambitious ground-up development process, ushering in a new era of design and performance for the MartinLogan brand. A unique execution utilising the most advanced technologies and materials, “the new Motion Series offers unmatched performance, while the stunning design compliments even the most elegant interiors with your choice of three available finishes”.

Available in Gloss Black, Walnut, and Satin White, the range includes Motion F20 (Floor standing speaker) - $6,999 RRP, Motion F10 (Floor standing speaker) - $4,999 RRP, Motion C10 (Centre Speaker) - $1,799 RRP (each), Motion B10 (Bookshelf Speaker) - $2,599 RRP, and Motion MP10 (Multi-purpose Speaker) - $1,899 RRP.

John Bagby, Managing Director, MartinLogan, told StereoNET:

We wanted to provide the team at ML the opportunity to define the future direction of the brand with a truly clean slate design. The result is a collection of loudspeakers that are not just an upgrade of its predecessor, but a whole new level of quality and excellence. This fourth-generation product is truly a game changer for our brand. Our team has truly outdone themselves with the performance, craftsmanship and level of attention that went into creating these new models.

The MartinLogan Motion® XT Series comprises four new models, two floor-standing, one bookshelf and one centre channel, including Motion XT F200 (Floor standing speaker) - $9,999 RRP, Motion XT F100 (Floor standing speaker) - $8,499 RRP, Motion XT C100 (Centre Speaker) - $2,699 RRP (each), and Motion XT B100 (Bookshelf Speaker) - $3,299 RRP.

This new range features a host of new audio innovations exclusive to the company, including Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeters - the company's signature thin-film tweeter technology has been upgraded with new larger magnet structures that it says offer improved performance with lower distortion and higher output. At the same time, the Motion XT Series receives the highest-performance variant of Martin Logan's signature FMT technology, the Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion XT Tweeter.

Also new is the Folded Motion Waveguide - which the company says it meticulously selected after reviewing nearly 50 design iterations to enhance the consistency, dispersion, and output of the incredible Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeters. The waveguide is said to ensure consistent performance across a wide range of listening positions while minimising unwanted room reflections.

Other new features include all-new cone materials - Motion XT receives Nomex Reinforced Kevlar woofers for the critical midrange frequencies, while Motion receives Woven Fiberglass woofers, perfectly aligning these series with their in-wall/in-ceiling CI siblings for seamless timbre matching. There's also the new F.A.S.T. Foot - new floorstanding models feature new, fully adjustable, toolless feet that are said to provide increased performance with their anti-vibration properties and fast adjustment to level a speaker on any type of flooring.

Finally, but not an exhaustive overview of all the new technologies on offer, is the McCracken-Vojtko Crossovers - the culmination of combining extensive anechoic, in-room measurements, and blind listening tests with the low distortion philosophy of MartinLogan's signature Vojtko Crossover. Through this process, each speaker was refined to achieve the best performance for its application.

MartinLogan's new Motion and Motion XT ranges will be available from April 2023.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories.
