Marantz Model 40n Streaming Integrated Amplifier Launched

Marantz Model 40n is a compact premium lifestyle all-in-one music system promising “the most musical sound”.

The Marantz Model 40n integrated amplifier follows the stunning pairing of the StereoNET Applause Award-winning Model 30 integrated and SACD 30n disc/ networked audio player announced back in September 2020.

The new 'just add speakers' system retains the stunning looks (in our opinion) of the Model 30, although this one-box amplifier and streamer is powered by a 70 watt per channel (8 ohms) Class A/B amplifier stage, unlike its pricier Class D Hypex-powered stablemate.

Here, the Model 40n still benefits from the company's proprietary Hyper-Dynamic Amplifier Modules (HDAMs) and discrete surface mount components linked by the shortest possible signal paths.

Also, under the hood, you'll find a larger power supply transformer with four output transistors per channel with heavy copper bus bars (rather than thin copper printed tracks) and very short power pathways. These all add up to lower internal impedance and the ability to deliver instant high current capability. The result, says Marantz, is a highly dynamic and excellent match for even loudspeakers that are challenging to drive. Moreover, the power supply is separated from the amplification by the huge central heat sink and then the digital and phono stage are further isolated by a shielded case.

Additionally, the Model 40n gives you access to Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, TIDAL, TuneIn internet radio and many more. Furthermore, the HEOS multi-room streaming system will sniff out the digital audio files on your network up to PCM 192kHz / 24 bit, as well as DSD up to 5.6 MHz. Wireless connectivity options include Apple AirPlay 2, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Built-In.

As well as a remote control, you can also use your voice via Siri, Alexa and Google.

Of course, the MODEL 40n offers analogue and digital inputs, including HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) for hooking up your telly and a moving magnet phono stage, dubbed Marantz Musical Phono EQ.

If you want to spin your silver discs, you could partner the Model 40n with the SACD 30n, although that would see you double-up on streaming smarts. Unfortunately, we couldn't get Marantz to confirm that a partnering disc player will be following the Model 40n, but neither did they dismiss it - so stay tuned.

Finally, the dedicated subwoofer output with crossover adjustments allows you to optimise bass response for any listening room.

The Marantz Model 40n Integrated Amplifier will be available in Australia from May 2022 in two finishes, Marantz Black and Silver Gold, for $4,499 RRP.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
