LUXMAN ANNOUNCES NEW PD-151 TURNTABLE

Luxman has announced it's new entry-level turntable named the PD-151 which will initially be released in Japan in November this year.

Complementing the higher spec PD-171A which was released in 2014, Luxman says its new belt-driven PD-151 has been designed to focus on performance while keeping the cost down.

Luxman also says that it focused on three major elements including the tonearm, turntable and drive system - with the priorities being operability, attractive design and functionality, all integrating beautifully.

It features a newly developed, high precision DC motor with a quoted wow and flutter at less than 0.04%, with ultra accuracy across 33.3, 45 and 78 RPM rotational speeds.

The design of the PD-151 features an under-slung, suspended structure. Components have been mounted on the underneath of the of the top panel chassis which Luxman says “eliminates the influence of vibrations from the turntable's supporting surface”.

Luxman has opted for a 10mm thick machined aluminium plinth providing a rigid base for the moving parts, while the 4kg platter is said to offer improved stability and accurate rotation.

The PD-151 utilises a high precision stainless steel spindle, a PEEK thrust beating and brass radial bearing.

Like the PD-171, this release also uses a JELCO static balanced tonearm which caters for easy cartridge changes.

The motor and power transformer are isolated with rubber damping mounts, while large calibre insulating feet with 8mm of independent height adjustment ensure the turntable is isolated and level.

A 4mm thick acrylic dust cover will also be available as an optional extra.

The PD-151 weighs 15.7kg and measures 465mm x 164mm x 322mm (WHD).

The Luxman PD-151 turntable will land in Australia in February 2019 and is expected to sell for $6499 RRP without cartridge or dust cover.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality.
