Karl-Heinz Fink Acquires Epos Loudspeakers

British loudspeaker company Epos has been acquired by Karl-Heinz Fink, the designer and founder of FinkTeam, of Essen, Germany.

From now on, the brand and its intellectual property are no longer under the stewardship of Michael Creek of Creek Audio Ltd. – who originally acquired it back in 1999. In the UK, it will be lead by one-time Epos Sales Director, David Jefferys, and new international distributors and retailers are being sought.

Jefferys said:

Epos was an important part of my experience in the hi-fi industry; excellent loudspeakers that were acknowledged as being very special. I am very pleased to be able to be involved in revitalising the brand with Karl-Heinz.

Michael Creek added:

I am very happy to have placed the Epos brand with a company that I know will honour its traditions.

StereoNET understands that Creek Audio is refocusing back on its core electronics business, leaving Karl-Heinz Fink to better utilise the famous Epos name. It's likely that a new range of loudspeakers will be developed that more closely follow the original philosophy of Epos founder Robin Marshall. This suggests less complex crossovers will be used, with a renewed focus on phase-coherence between treble and mid/bass drivers.

The deal gives Karl-Heinz Fink a 'plug and play' speaker brand with nearly four decades of provenance, and a distinctive take on design.

The new owner said:

I am happy to continue a well-established British brand that started its life with some great products… Epos was not just a brand like many others, but unique in many ways. Be prepared to see more unconventional ideas.

Creek Audio will continue to be responsible for the servicing and spares supply of all models produced as the owner of Epos prior to 2020, and will continue to sell any outstanding stock. Watch this space for news of further developments from Creek, Epos and Karl-Heinz Fink soon…
