Gryphon Audio Designs pays tribute to Josef Riediger

The sad news of the passing of Australian industry veteran Josef Riediger late last year brought much perspective to all those who had been fortunate enough to know him over many decades. One of those people was Gryphon's founder Flemming E. Rasmussen, who had enjoyed an extraordinary friendship with Josef for more than thirty years.

Flemming wanted to do something special to mark his friendship with Josef and the end of an era, and as the Gryphon brand itself was just one of Josef's true loves in life, an idea was soon born.

Gryphon's Antileon amplifier's roots go back to the very beginnings and in some way, even before the start of the Gryphon company. “The product that would come to be known as the legendary Gryphon Headamp began as a strictly personal, non-commercial exercise, an exploration into how efficiently electronic topology could be translated into sound with all essential musical values intact.”

It would become the building block of all future designs, the very foundation of the Gryphon DNA and led directly to the design of the first Gryphon power amplifiers, Gryphon DM 100 (1991-1995) and the monoblock version, Reference One (1992-1996). And while technology and new designs have allowed further evolution, Gryphon has built upon those same foundations to be the company it is today.

Gryphon Audio Design celebrates this exceptional success with the limited edition release of the Gryphon Antileon Anniversary, which it says is “the ultimate refinement of concepts, technologies and components originally developed for the Gryphon Mephisto, the brand's ultimate power amplification statement.”

In celebration of the Antileon's 25th anniversary, Gryphon offers a special numbered series consisting of 25 stereo versions and 25 monoblock pairs. Each set will include a reproduction of the original Antileon EVO artwork and a special owner's manual with a historical introduction to every Antileon generation, written by Gryphon founder Flemming E. Rasmussen.

The Gryphon Antileon Anniversary edition is a tribute to the amplifier's 25 years and the choices made from the very beginning, as well as serving as a homage to the worldwide community of Gryphon owners who made it possible for them to come so far. Flemming has dedicated this release to the memory of Josef Riediger, his Australian distributor for 33 years, but more importantly, a true friend.

Available now, the allocation is extremely limited. In Australia, it will sell for $54,995 RRP for the Stereo model, while a Mono pair will sell for $109,995 RRP.
