DALI Oberon 9 Flagship Arrives Next Month

DALI's affordable Oberon line is set to receive its new flagship Oberon 9 floorstander from April 2021.  It features a dedicated 7-inch midrange, two long-throw 9-inch woofers and a 1.14-inch soft dome tweeter for a true three-way design.

The Oberon range wouldn't be Danish if it didn't look as pleasing to the eye as it does, but DALI is also a company dedicated to bringing audiophile goodness to those on a tight budget. You also get the bonus of innovative, sound-improving technology to boot.

The largest speaker in the Oberon family, the range includes six different products, comprising two bookshelf/stand mount models, two floor standers, an on-wall model, and a centre channel. The range starts at just $699 RRP.

Their tweeters and woofers are designed entirely in-house with proprietary technology like SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound). This special technique makes the woofer behave in a very agile way and decreases distortion from mechanical loss. The dual 9-inch drivers have a combined membrane area that is 12 per cent larger than a 12″ woofer. This allows a higher maximum sound pressure level, leading to an effortless reproduction of the music dynamics.

DALI has also figured out a way to coax the speakers to create an impressively wide dispersion through clever design on the cabinets' geometry and the driver materials, which include special low-mass wood fibre cones.

The Oberon 9 will be available in a choice of Black or Walnut finishes, while the striking grilles have a sonic as well as aesthetic purpose: the speakers are “voiced” to have the grilles on, but if you prefer your music with more of an edge, then take them off.

Available in Australia from late-April 2021, the DALI Oberon 9 will sell for $2,999 RRP (pair).

What we think?

It's great to see DALI back in Australia since Amber Technology relaunched the brand at the StereoNET Melbourne Hi-Fi Show in 2019. We reviewed the Applause Award-winning smaller sibling - Oberon 5 last year. Playing across all genres beautifully and with a full-bodied, spacious and balanced sound, the Oberon 9 is sure to be much the same, suiting bigger rooms and spaces.
